Top 10 Amazon releases this week

Okay, we’re gonna try something here so bear with us. Currently, Laser Time is completely listener supported, but we’re still trying to pay off the recording equipment, web hosting, etc. We appreciate all the donations sent in, but this here seemed like a fun little alternative in terms of supporting Laser Time and keeping the boys in beer. We’re going to show you our favorite releases of the week, as well as highlight some upcoming pre-order incentives on Amazon. Clicking a link is 100% safe, costs you nothing, yet anything you buy on Amazon kicks a small referral percentage back to Laser Time.

Make sense? Good let’s go!

Rage
PC  | PS3  | Xbox 360

Probably one of the most beautiful console games I’ve ever seen. Although, BE WARNED CONSOLE GAMERS: Clear off those hard drives, cause this bad boy’ll suffer some pretty severe pop-in otherwise. That said, if you’re not excited about a new id Software game/engine, you’ve probably only been gaming for a week. So, welcome to the medium!

The Lion King

Do I really need to recommend this to anyone? You’ve either seen it, you love it, you want to watch it with your kids, you’re kids gonna love it, or you simply won’t listen to any reasoning I could ever come up with. Brett’s a good example. Also available on a non-3D, 2-disc Blu-ray and a pricey “trilogy” Mega Set with the DTV sequels.

Spider-Man: Edge of Time
PS3360Wii

Even shitty Spider-man games have redeeming qualities. Spider-man, mostly… Don’t know much about this one. To their credit, even bad Spidey games are generally “okay,” so I usually at least pick em’ up once they undergo the inevitable price drop

Pulp Fiction

English, motherfucker – do you speak it?! Well… how about 1080p Pulp Fiction for $15? Speaking my language now, Honey Bunny? Wanna see how that top image above ties this article all together?

Space Jam

Christ, do I have a love hate relationship with this film… On the one hand, it fucking sucks. On the other hand, it stars the goddamned Looney Tunes and it’s mind-bendingly ridiculous that it exists in the first place. Take your place in history, Space Jam – I’m buying you!

Jackie Brown

I might like this better than Pulp Fiction. It’s got an even better performance from Sam Jackson, it’s one of the last times you can see De Niro actually acting, it’s got Chris Tucker’s least obnoxious appearance in cinema history, plus Robert Foster’s bail bondsman could very well be my favorite detective character of the entire 90’s. Only $10 and in HD.

Dead Alive (Blu-ray)

One of my favorite “horror” films and a great comedy! Watch it and be astounded that any suit in Hollywood ever entrusted Peter Jackson with a gazillion dollar franchise like Lord of the Rings. One of the goriest things ever made, and where the hell else are you gonna see a kung-fu priest rape a zombie?

Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure

Quite possibly my favorite movies of all time. If you don’t like Tim Burton’s surreal take on a manboy in search of his missing bicycle, we have nothing left to say to one another. I might even ban you for saying anything disparaging about the only movie ever written by Phil Hartman. Nuff said, Amazing Larry!

Bored to Death – Season Two

Haven’t seen the second season, but the first was one of the most unique and refreshing comedies I’ve seen in years. It stars Zach Galifianakis, although he’s not playing “Zach Galifianakis” at all. It’s on HBO, although it never uses that as license to be outlandishly immature. This gem and East Bound & Down feel like those old ballsy, writer-driven comedy movie series that Hollywood no longer has the guts to attempt without Adam Sandler. Thanks HBO.

Dark Souls
PS3  | 360

I’ve played neither this, nor the spiritual precursor Demon’s Souls, yet I know dozens of people who swear by it as one of the best series of this console generation. I’ve been somewhat intimidated by it, as it’s generally renowned for being one of the longest and brutally difficult games ever made. But hey, at least that means you’re getting your money’s worth!

  1. Save a little money for a rainy day.

Keep it up fellas. Cancelled my pre-order of Saints Row: The Third and am reordering through your referral link.

  2. hmmmm comment? watching workaholics and they just showed a scene where they were taking a stroke break in the same car. WTH

  3. What if we hit on a link and then change from there, ie changing from the standard ME3 like in the link, to the collectors edition, will you still get the kick back? If so, i am all over this.

    1. As long as you enter Amazon through our link, anything you purchase during your visit will get us a tiny percentage. It’s not much, but our hope is that enough people do it and we won’t have to beg for money anymore

      1. Wait, really? So, if I click on a link for space jam, and end up buying a deadpool comic, you still get money from that? If that’s the case, then could you put a universal link that goes to the amazon homepage? Maybe a link in your store page? Amazon is where I buy most of my junk, and I’d totally be willing to go through your link when I’m in the mood to buy stuff.

  4. let me rephrase “I’ve played neither this, nor the spiritual precursor Demon’s Souls, yet I know dozens of people who swear by it as one of the best series of this console generation” I feel the same way. Think I should play the first though or should (if i get the game) i just play the second?

    1. Shit yeah! He an Paul Reubens were in The Groundlings together. Phil has a tiny speaking part as a reporter in the final scene of the film

  5. Support Laser Time just by buying stuff I want? Cool. When I finally pre-order ME3 I’ll make sure to do it through here.

  6. I was hoping Red Dead Game of the Year edition was gonna be on the list. Looking forward to Taints Row the Turd though

  7. If only I didn’t recently find out that Amazon hates me. Kept telling me I couldn’t get shit sent to Australia. 🙁 As far as I know they at least let me do that with DVDs though, so wewt. Defs keen to help out.

  8. Gah I think the PC version for Rage isn’t scheduled for an Indian launch. Even the damn iPhone game never came to the Indian App store…this is all very worrying.

  9. I canceled my preorder for UMVC3 and re-preordered it haha, and I even got 1 day shipping for 99 cents:D. Good luck you guys

  10. I’d definitely rather support you guys through Amazon than Adam Carolla, as long as we can give money to people we support for free. I just wish they had some good bonuses for Batman, Uncharted 3 and Skyrim, I’ll happily preorder if they give me something for the game, but gift cards and silly toys and maps and such make me want to just drive to Best Buy an release day.

  11. Fantastic idea, from now on any purchase I make on Amazon will have originated from a click on one of your links. Keep up the great work, the new show kicks ass.

  12. Yeah, so I looked at your story on the Great Dictator before I checked this out. I decided I need to order the Criterion Bluray and didn’t click on your link. Then I go through this article and go “d’oh”. I cancel my purchase, clicked on the link, rebought The Great Dictator and added a preorder for Halo 1 on top of it. Heh, so there you go. Hopefully it goes through.

  13. If you guys extended this to Amazon.ca, you’d get at least a few shiny beaver-engraved nickels from my constant Amazon purchases.
