Top Amazon releases for February 7th

Have a look at the week’s best media releases and upcoming video game preorder bonuses. Win a FREE t-shirt just for playing..

Last week was pretty hectic, so I’m including some stuff from that time I thought was worth mentioning. As always, making ANY of your Amazon purchases through the link below or on the right sidebar kicks Laser Time a little commission, while costing you zilch. It’d be a shame if you bought shit online and didn’t support Laser Time, wouldn’t it? And of course, to absolve ourselves of this semi-weekly, semi-pathetic pledge drive, you can win the Laser Time shirt from the Laser Time Emporium of your choice just for commenting – WHAT A COUNTRY!

Twilight Part 4: Citizens on Patrol
Certainly, there’s a preteen lady in your life who will love this? I’m absolutely embarassed that I’ve yet to one of the films in the *ugh* Twilight Saga, but hey, I have absolutely no interest. That said, I’d like to think we here at Laser Time pride ourselves in being pop culture carousers. And you can’t keep your finger on the pulse, if you haven’t done your research. Worse still, I’ve had to remain quiet, since I refuse to join in almost any hate parade nowadays unless I’ve actually taken in some of the product people are dog piling on. I like to be an informed hater. And oh man… this looks so worth the negative criticism.

Resident Evil: Revelations
I quite enjoyed the demo of this one, but there was something missing. I felt pretty dumb once Henry informed me what exactly that was: The Circle Stick Pro. The reasonably priced, although somewhat cumbersome 3DS peripheral kind of makes all the difference in the world, and judgeing by the rest of the world reception to it, this is pretty much the best portable version of Resident Evil ever made. Read Henry’s review for more.

Drive
I’m utterly embarassed that I haven’t seen this yet. From all accounts, it was tailor made specifically with me in mind. The only negative things I’ve even heard about it come from women who care more for Ryan Gosling than 80’s throwbacks and onscreen violence. Their disappointment makes me love it even more!

A Fish Called Wanda
“AssHOOoooOOOOOOOOOOOLE!” (Love this movie)

Lady and The Tramp
You think you’re too cool for Lady and The Tramp? Well, you’ve got another thing comin’, mother fucker. Ready for Disney’s only depiction of premarital sex?! How about unflattering stereotype of Italians, Asians, and those damn dirty Scots?! Seriously, this dated masterpiece has something for everybody. Brush up, because some this material will be featured in an upcoming episode of Laser Time.

Darkness II  360  | PS3
I hope this is well received by gamers, ‘cause it’s been a loooong time since the release of the original game, and a lot has changed both in-game and in gaming since then. Thankfully, all the reports I’m hearing are good (including those from a bearded boy I very much trust!) Whatever, I really enjoyed the first game, and I hear this one is even weirder. Thank goodness, Mr. Reparaz has a more in depth report.

Downton Abbey: Season 2
I just started watching this series, quite recluctantly, since I just assumed it’ be something I’d hate. Incorrect!  I’d imagined it was another one of those prim n’ proper fantasies meant to get the ladies masturbating over all the tea parties and giant dresses, sorta like that crap my mom used to force me endure on Masterpiece Theater when we were a one TV, cable-less household. NAY! This show takes a look at hoighty-toighty aristocracy and holds up to a mirror of modern class warfare. I’ve never reveled so pleasantly in the depiction of white slavery. Seriously, this show fucking rules!

Kingdoms of Amalar: Reckoning  360  |  PS3  |  PC
I know next to nothing about this title, and expected even less. But the reviews for the first Amalar are nothing less than stellar. Order ASAP to take advantage of the pre-order bonuses, like the downloadable Ultimate Treasure Hunter Pack and The Fate Touched Weapons DLC

Final Fantasy XIII-2  360  |  PS3
Although my buddy Carolyn did so deftly, I imagine this is a difficult entry to discuss within the confines of a review. The biggest point you’re going to see reiterated is that it improves immeasurably over its predecessor. As someone who apologetically accepted the first games failings (and it’s got more than a few,) it’s somewhat foolhardy to believe that someone so turned off by FFXIII A) would’ve played all the way through it and willingly jump into the next game and B) the improvements would move someone to jump into a series known for being so story dense to the point of 80 hours. Perhaps evolving the gameplay to be more appealing to modern expectations was better left to the next iteration of the game?

The Spider-Man Vault: A Museum-in-a-Book with Rare Collectibles Spun from Marvel’s Web
OH! As promised, here’s the cool Spidey book Brett recommended on this week’s episode of Laser Time. At over half the price Carolyn purchased it for! Oooo… my buyer’s remorse is tingling!!

  1. If I had the moneys I would make all of my purchases through the Laser Time. Especially that Lady and the Tramp and Resident Evil:Revelations

  2. Cohesive writing with witty and personally remarks for each item plus deals? I say this would look like some journalism. I came for shitty nostalgia and dick jokes. I also cant convey sarcasm well in an internet post after 15 years

  3. Oh god, I reviewed that miserable abomination that wasTwilight: Breaking Dawn. Just seeing the cover is bringing back Vietnam style flashbacks.

  4. I wish the BluRay of Fish Called Wanda had the Schweppes commercial with John Cleese, but I think it’s very unlikely. I haven’t seen it since the original VHS version.
