Vidjagame Apocalypse 61 – Total Gibberish

This week, the subdued trio of Mikel, Anne, and Dave lead an exploration into the deeper mysteries of games that use nonsensical babbling instead of voice-acting, after which we stumble through a meager field of new releases, a few news tidbits, and a look at the real-world facts you’ve learned from your years of playing games.

Question of the Week

What’s your favorite game-character trio?

*NOTE* We’ve been getting some AMAZING donations lately but hardly anyone is attaching a name and the intended recipient of said donations. Please try to make note of which podcast the donation is going to so maybe we can get some new equipment and thank the right people for all their support.

    1. the one time I walked the streets of rural Mexico, it took less than 10 minutes to see a truck full of uniformed men with machine guns. BladedFalcon ain’t trippin’.

  1. QotW: I’m probably a little biased from my time touring with Disney on Ice, but I’m partial to the Sora Donald Goofy trio from Kingdom Hearts. Every time i go back and play those games, I expect to be annoyed by them, but I never am, just pleasantly surprised. Honorable mention to Reno Rude and Elena of the Turks (FF7)

Sidebar- I haven’t forgotten the LaserTime ep in which Disney on Ice is disparaged, and next time a show is in San Fran, Ima get you guys tickets so you can see the light.

  2. QOTD: Jebediah, Bill and Bob Kerman from Kerbal Space Program. So much personality packed into their goofy little faces.

  3. My Favourite trio is Ratchet,Clank and Qwark from the Ratchet and Clank series. Mainly the chemistry between the three is hilarious. Hearing the banter between a wise-cracking lombax, his nerdy robot sidekick and a narcissistic asshole of a superhero makes playing those games even more enjoyable.

2nd place goes to Michael,Trevor and Franklin from GTA V OR Your Character,Shaundi and Pierce from Saints Row 2-4.

  4. My favorite gaming trio is Bulbasaur, Charmander and Squirtle, that you can receive all of in pokemon yellow, or just any combination of starter pokemon, because pokemon are awesome and you should feel awesome.
    How bouts them mudkipz.

  5. Joel, Ellie and Bill from The last of us. Although they are a proper trio for a relatively short time, their interactions with each other were fantastic and memorable.

    1. And yeah, I live in Mexico, in the state of Michoacan to be precise, which to be fair IS in a bit of a turmoil right now, but again, not as bad as it sounds, even with all the cops and big guns parading around, it’s more for show than for actual use. I’ve lived on that state all my life and I’ve never heard a gun being fired anywhere nearby to where I live or work.

  6. Solid Snake, Raiden, and Otacon are an unstoppable three-some, especially in MGS4. While Otacon gathers intel and pees his pants, Raiden’s flipping mechs with his foot-blades, and Snake picks off the infantry.

  7. QOTW: Chell, GlaDOS, and Wheatley. Mostly the latter two, obviously, but every comedy team needs a straight man.

  8. ITE, Anne reinforces the stereotype that women irrationally hate all other women, thinks Panty Richford is hilarious, is disgusted by Kitty Purry.

    1. Woah… When have I ever said I hate women? Did you listen to the same episode? I said I like Katy Perry. I just think Kitty Purry is stupid. Why would someone do that to a cat? I love women. We’re way better than men. Ease up on the Anne hate, dude.

Also, Panty Richfordson Jr. III -is- hilarious.

  9. QOTW: I’m gonna have to go with Michael, Franklin and Trevor from GTA V. More so than pretty much other gaming trio, I really felt that their relationship was real and their interactions always entertained me to the point where I actually got them to hang out when it wasn’t a mandatory mission, and that’s a testament to the writing gods that Rockstar employs.

  10. I like the S, T and Z blocks from Tetris. Oh sure everyone just loves to shower all the praise on the I block, never really commending the constant hard working multiple purpose fitting blocks. The L and J block always get in my way and don’t get me started about the O block and its gap blocking antics!

  11. Public announcement: QOTW posts go in the forum topic, not here, at least judging by the last few episodes, unless they went back to reading them here.

If that’s the case you guys and gals should put that in the episode description up there instead of giving a warning on the podcast itself otherwise people will forget and keep posting here.

  12. I had donated $20 sometime in the last two weeks. I didn’t specify a show because, frankly, I listen to all of them save for Cheap Popcast. I only omit that one because my girlfriend would surely question some life choices if I started watching wrestling again. Ok, that’s not true, but she would definitely give me a look.

  13. QOTW: Commander Shepard, Tali, and Garrus from the Mass Effect trilogy. It may seem weird to call them a trio seeing as you have dozens of other characters to work with, but Garrus and Tali are the only 2 characters that you can have as squadmates in all three games. I feel the closest attachment to those two, and for each of the final missions in the three games, I always pick Garrus and Tali as my squadmates, even if it puts me at a disadvantage because thematically it just feels right that these 3 fight alongside each other to the very end. They are the Luke, Han, and Leia of video games to me.

  14. Gordon, Alyx, and D.O.G. from the Half-Life 2 games. Yes, you play as Gordon in 1st person and at times you’re separated from the two and spend a ton of time with Alyx in Episodes One and Two, but somehow it just feels complete when the three of you are together after just playing catch when the three of you come together for the 1st time.

  15. Commander Shepard, Tali, and Legion (my go-to team in ME2). The tension between Tali and Legion made every mission and cutscene interesting and I loved how I, as Shepard, got to help ease things between them. Definitely a top video game trio!

  16. In this weeks’ episode: the benefits of child murder.

QOTW: The holy trinity of my childhood consisted of the Ratchet, Jak, and Sly franchises, I wouldn’t be able to really put this as an answer if they hadn’t been in that stupid game for the playstation move (which I actually didn’t play). But all three characters hold a special place for me and I feel like even though there’s seems to be a niche market for 2D platformers, 3D platformers of their nature have been super absent lately. So I’ll always be interested in another sequel.
