We won’t pay you for your prognostications, but if you can be the best Payback predictor, your choice of wrestler theme closing out next month’s Cheap Popcast. Read on for Dave’s picks and then make yours!
Hey all, back again with another round of Cheap Predictions! Firstly, thanks for listening to the bonus episodes of Cheap Popcast that have popped up over the last few weeks. If you’ve enjoyed them, please take the time to rate and review the show on iTunes! Anywho, onto Payback!
As we’ve been doing for awhile now, the reader who makes the most correct predictions gets to pick the song that plays at the conclusion of next month’s episode of Cheap Popcast! First, though, a recap of the Extreme Rules predictions. Of course, when I pick a near-perfect card, the one match I miss is the little-person bout on the pre-show (albeit the show-stealing little-person bout on the pre=show). Amongst the commenters, we had the closest tiebreaker yet; three people picked perfect cards, and while Tranquilbez22 and blutal were within four minutes of correctly predicting the Shield-Evolution running time, hairybeast44 was only off by two-and-a-half minutes. HB picked Ice Cube’s “Natural Born Killaz” (best known as New Jack’s theme that actually played through his hardcore brawls) to close the show.
Here’s how the prediction contest goes. I’m going to make my picks in this here article, and then open up the replies to you awesome listeners. You will then pick a winner (or if you’re feeling risky a rare draw/double DQ) for each match (don’t worry about getting the finish right, I’m just looking for winners), and then, just in case there’s a tie for correct predictions, pick a running time for the final match listed (the presumed main event) as a tiebreaker.
What does the winner get? Well, you can make your mark on the next Cheap Popcast episode by choosing the next show’s closing theme. Pick the wrestler theme and include a YouTube URL to a wrestler’s theme alongside your predictions (including the running time of the final match listed) and I’ll give you a shout-out before throwing to our episode-ender. Let’s kick off the predictions!
HAIR VS MASK MATCH: HORNSWOGGLE VS EL TORITO
I got this one wrong last month, but I’m thinking there’s no way WWE unmasks the one member of Los Matadores that actually shouldn’t be unmasked. WWE makes Hornswoggle do a new dumb thing every other month, and I say after this probably-less-impressive-than-last-month rematch, El Torito wins.
RUSEV VS BIG E
This match will be much more entertaining that last month’s handicap match mauling, but let’s not pretend this is something it’s not. Rusev’s WWE career is still in it’s infancy, and he’s got a few more months of PPV victories before anything changes, so Rusev wins.
DIVAS CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH: PAIGE (CHAMPION) VS ALICIA FOX
I’ll probably bring this up again on the show, but if you have the WWE Network, you NEED to check out the Charlotte-Natalya championship match on NXT Takeover; it was the best match of the night and the best women’s match I’ve ever seen. I only hope that WWE has that same faith for this match. Both of the participants in this match are amongst the company’s best, and Fox’s new personality has been super-entertaining, so hopefully they get a decent amount of time on the card. However, I think Paige’s title reign still needs a few more high-profile victories, so I say Paige wins.
UNITED STATES CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH: SHEAMUS (CHAMPION) VS CESARO
On one hand, Sheamus is the pale Cena; he rarely loses unless he’s hit with a metric ton of interference. He’s just picked up the US Title, so a brief reign like this wouldn’t look good. However, between his WrestleMania moment and recent success, I say he continues to grow with Heyman, so Cesaro wins.
INTERCONTINENTAL CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH: BAD NEWS BARRETT (CHAMPION) VS ROB VAN DAM
WWE still has some faith in Barrett. RVD is the very definition of a part-timer. Barrett wins.
LAST MAN STANDING MATCH: JOHN CENA VS BRAY WYATT
A third straight month of this? Boy, I hope this STANDS as their LAST match, MAN. Just like last month, the ability for the Wyatt family to constantly interfere is what will likely take down super-Cena. Can Cena actually lose a feud? I’m hoping that’s the case and that Bray Wyatt wins.
THE SHIELD VS EVOLUTION
Topping last month is going to be a tall order, but I have high hopes these dudes will deliver in light of a world title-free card. I like the elimination stipulation, and I bet it’s used to have Reigns fight back from a deficit. Now the question is, does he fight ALL the way back? I think he does, and Evolution disbands as Batista heads to the red carpet The Shield wins at 28 minutes.
Alright, there’s my picks. Sound off below with your match predictions, (including the six man tag match’s running time) as well as a YouTube link to your wrestler theme pick. Good luck, everyone!
