Can you survive predicting this month’s WWE results? If so, you can choose the closer for an upcoming Cheap Popcast segment. Read on for Dave’s Survivor Series 2014 picks and then make yours!
As we’ve been doing for awhile now, the reader who makes the most correct predictions gets to pick the song that plays at the conclusion of next month’s episode of Cheap Popcast! First, though, a recap of Hell in a Cell. Of the eight pre-announced matches, I only correctly guessed five results, biffing on the Cell matches as well as the Divas title match. The winner of last month’s predictions contest was Ampatent, who notched a perfect card, so ‘patent’s pick will close our next episode.
Anywho, here’s how the prediction contest goes. I’m going to make my picks in this here article, and then open up the replies to you awesome listeners. You will then pick a winner (or if you’re feeling frisky, a rare draw/double DQ) for each match (don’t worry about getting the finish right, I’m just looking for winners if any), and then, just in case there’s a tie for correct predictions, pick a running time for the final match listed (the presumed main event) as a tiebreaker. Just check out my predictions as a guideline.
What does the winner get? Well, you can make your mark on the next PPV-themed Cheap Popcast episode by choosing a theme to close a segment. Pick the wrestler theme and include a YouTube URL to a wrestler’s theme alongside your predictions (including the running time of the final match listed) and I’ll give you a shout-out
FANDANGO VS TBA
Fandango is making his re-debut at the Survivor Series pre-show, complete with a new backup dancer (Rosa Mendes) and some sort of new attitude (even though his old attitude as wrestling’s Senor Cardgage was great). His opponent hasn’t even been revealed which either means that the WWE cares so little that they’ll throw a random jobber at Mr. Dango (like Heath Slater), or bring back someone even bigger in a surprise twist (maybe, I dunno, Rey Mysterio if WWE has ironed things out). I think it’ll be the former, so I say Fandango wins.
TAG TEAM TITLE FATAL FOUR WAY MATCH: GOLD AND STARDUST (CHAMPS) VS THE USOS VS MIZ & MIZDOW VS LOS MATADORES
As great as the ‘Dust brothers are, keeping the straps on that team will continue the repetitiveness within the tag team division. It’s easier for face tag teams to build up a following, and even though they get cheered like crazy (or at least one member does), Miz & Mizdow are technically heels. I think the WWE capitalizes on the groundswell of support and gives the most entertaining duo in the WWE the belts. Miz & Mizdow win.
DIVAS SURVIVOR SERIES MATCH
This has to be better than last year’s mess of a Divas Survivor Series match. Fortunately, that’s very likely, since there’s almost half as many competitors, and the only below-average peformer is Cameron (whereas last year included Rosa, Eva Marie, and Jojo). I feel like this match will set up the next opponent for the Diva’s championship, and said champion will likely be a heel. Therefore, I’ll say Natalya’s team wins.
DEAN AMBROSE VS BRAY WYATT
The last time Dean Ambrose won a PPV match was when he was part of The Shield. Bray Wyatt is making his PPV return. Ambrose has already proven he’s teflon enough to take big losses (especially when something screwy happens, per Wyatt tradition), so I say Wyatt wins. Should be the match of the night, though.
DIVAS TITLE MATCH: AJ LEE (CHAMP) VS NIKKI BELLA
It feels like a monthly tradition for me to pick AJ to lose, but this time it actually makes sense! Nikki as champ could actually work since she’s improved greatly as of late. I feel like the WWE wants to put a bookmark in the Bellas feud until WrestleMania, so Nikki will force Brie into a feud with AJ while she dispatches of the other Divas for awhile, so I say Nikki wins.
TRADITIONAL SURVIVOR SERIES MATCH: TEAM CENA VS TEAM AUTHORITY
WWE loves to throw curveballs at the audience, but I feel like the stipulations make this outcome obvious. The Authority has been a mostly-good storyline that has extended over a year and has run its course. Cena getting his team fired is a bit too outlandish (mostly because with a roster this thin, even kayfabe firings are going to make for some paltry shows), so I say Team Cena wins in 32 minutes. The twist? Dolph Ziggler is the sole survivor and butts heads with Cena over saving the team. Also, I’m hoping Kane gets taken out early and Cesaro gets a spot on Team Authority. That is, if the WWE isn’t done jobbing him out yet… wait, he’s going to lose to Fandango, isn’t he?
Alright, there’s my picks. Sound off below with your match predictions, the running time for the final match listed, as well as a YouTube link to your wrestler theme pick. Good luck, everyone!
