Cheap Predictions: Pick WWE TLC 2014 results and win!

Think you can climb the ladder and be Cheap Popcast’s prominent predictor? If so, you can choose the closer for an upcoming segment. Read on for Dave’s WWE TLC 2014 picks and then make yours!

As we’ve been doing for awhile now, the reader who makes the most correct predictions gets to pick the song that plays at the conclusion of next month’s episode of Cheap Popcast! First, though, a recap of Survivor Series. For the first time in forever (and possibly ever), I made a clean sweep and predicted every result. Granted, the card only had six pre-announced matches (compared to eight or so most months), but I’ll take any victory I can get. Nobody had the same picks as me, but the closest competitor was tranquilbez22, who got five correct predictions and was the closest in the main event tiebreaker, edging out themantista by three minutes. He chose Triple H’s “King of Kings” theme (aka The Authority’s theme).

Anywho, here’s how the prediction contest goes. I’m going to make my picks in this here article, and then open up the replies to you awesome listeners. You will then pick a winner (or if you’re feeling frisky, a rare draw/double DQ) for each match (don’t worry about getting the finish right, I’m just looking for winners if any), and then, just in case there’s a tie for correct predictions, pick a running time for the final match listed (the presumed main event) as a tiebreaker. Just check out my predictions as a guideline.

What does the winner get? Well, you can make your mark on the next PPV-themed Cheap Popcast episode by choosing a theme to close a segment. Pick the wrestler theme and include a YouTube URL to a wrestler’s theme alongside your predictions (including the running time of the final match listed) and I’ll give you a shout-out on next month’s episode. Got it? Good. Now, the predictions!

THE NEW DAY (KOFI KINGSTON AND BIG E) VS GOLD AND STARDUST
So the long-awaited faction featuring Xavier Woods, Kofi, and Big E is just a trio of dudes who are super-positive. While their motivation and interviews have been a bit meh, they work well in the ring and add another desperately-needed cog in the tag division. Speaking of, we’ve got yet another PPV where Cesaro is yet to be advertised, and making this a three-way dance would make the New Day’s debut even more spectacular. That won’t happen, though, so we’ll only see the recently-dethroned tag champs lose in the pre-show within a month. The New Day wins.

UNITED STATES CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH: RUSEV (CHAMP) VS JACK SWAGGER
Boy, the WWE really has ran out of decent mid-carders, haven’t they? While the company could have built out some of their under-utilized talent and put a fresh competitor like Titus O’Neal, Tyson Kidd, or Cesaro (look, I’m going to bring up his absence at almost every opportunity), they’ve circled through all of Rusev’s fodder. Now Swagger is apparently “motivated” since Zeb Colter was taken out by Rusev, but I don’t see the result being any different. Rusev’s streak should stay intact until a bigger show like ‘Mania (or at least the Rumble), so I say Rusev wins.

TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH: MIZ AND DAMIEN MIZDOW (CHAMPS) VS THE USOS
I really don’t know what The Usos do if they’re not contending for the tag team championships, but putting them back on top would be a bad idea for the tag division (which is now only just getting stocked up again). Mizdow is one of the hottest things going (now he has a replica Slammy to go alongside his replica belt!) so I say they keep the good thing going and Miz and Mizdow win.

CHAIRS MATCH: RYBACK VS KANE
Look at Kane in the image above. That’s the look of a dude that hasn’t won a PPV match in a dog’s age. Ryback looked pretty chumpy in what we thought would be his grand return at Survivor Series, so I say he makes up for it by going over hard at TLC. It’ll be messy and slow, but I say Ryback wins.

STAIRS MATCH: ERICK ROWAN VS THE BIG SHOW
Y’know what? I don’t hate this concept. These are two big and burly dudes, so why not have them heave the heaviest weapon at ringside at each other? Also, will there be additional steps at ringside, or is it just the two? Anywho, like Ryback’s match, I think this’ll be a mess, but if Rowan can get Big Show in the torture rack (it’s apparently his finisher), we’ll at least see a cool moment or two from a genuinely new talent. Rowan wins.

TABLES LADDERS AND CHAIRS MATCH: DEAN AMBROSE VS BRAY WYATT
The last time Ambrose had a match involving climbing, it was pretty insane, so I think at the very least, we’ll see a match of the night (and possibly MOTY) candidate out of these two. I feel like Bray needs a genuine win to salvage his middling 2014 and put him into the main event, and as has been established, Ambrose can lose every month without his stock lowering. Therefore, I say these two steal the show and Wyatt wins.

LADDER MATCH: LUKE HARPER (CHAMP) VS DOLPH ZIGGLER
This is a tough one. After Survivor Series, Ziggler needs to look strong, but the IC title is frankly below him at this point and doesn’t need to be traded around anymore. I say Ziggler starts a build towards the upper card at WrestleMania with a screwjob loss (via, let’s say, Rusev). Harper wins.

DIVAS TITLE MATCH: NIKKI BELLA (CHAMP) VS AJ LEE
Okay, so Nikki won the title, and it can be featured in an episode of Total Divas. I don’t thing she’s long for the belt, but I also think that another AJ reign will do much good. I think we’ll see some of the NXT talent come up in the new year to trade the title around, but until then, I say Nikki wins.

TABLES MATCH: JOHN CENA VS SETH ROLLINS
A tables match is second only to a MitB cash-in in terms of ways for heels to get cheap wins with title implications. However, I don’t think the WWE sees much value in a Rollins-Lesnar match next month (though the Rumble really sells itself and Rollins being decimated would play well into a hesitance to cash in later). I think we’re ultimately destined for Lesnar’s third consecutive match to be against Cenar, so I say John Cena wins in 19 minutes.

Alright, there’s my picks. Sound off below with your match predictions, the running time for the final match listed, as well as a YouTube link to your wrestler theme pick. Good luck, everyone!

  1. This is gonna be a rough PPV to watch after the sheer awesomeness of NXT R Evolution…

    The New Day
Swagger by DQ but Rusev retains
Miz & Mizdow (with some bullshit about Naomi wedged in
    Ryback
    Rowan
    Wyatt
    Harper
    Nikki Bella
I want Rollins but i know it’s gonna be Super Cena with the top rope AA in 18 minutes.

Gonna carry on the NXT love https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tw5nVVMeHIo
