  1. For me, the biggest triumph of E3 was seeing Link wearing Zelda’s dress. Finally. Deviant Art had a good run but we can finally close up shop, our work here is done.

    1. Are you sure you’re not confusing surprise with excitement, dawg?! If you could’ve accurately predicted our Top 5 last week, even begrudgingly, we’d like to hire you as the Laser Time Psychic.

  2. Was certainly nostalgic hearing Stoopid Relix one more time. Think it’s basically been scrubbed from the internet at this point.

  3. Was nostaglic to hear Stoopid Relix again. Think it’s basically been scrubbed from the internet at this point.

  4. Hi Chris. Just thought i’d let you know I am still paying attention to the site during E3. Henry’s reaction to the Shenmue 3 reveal was hilarious.

  5. Honestly, my favorite moment was the Nier 2 reveal. The JRPG love in general at this E3 was pretty great with FF7, Xenoblade, etc., but I was not expecting a new Nier to ever happen considering the developer went bankrupt in 2010. I loved the first game and I love Platinum, so I have every reason to be hyped about this.

  6. My favorite part is when the crew is talking about Cuphead and they (fake) call out their peers for getting the animation style wrong, attributing it to “Charles” Fleischer where they should have said “Max” Fleischer. Charles Fleischer was the voice of Roger Rabbit.

  7. I can’t believe that no one has said at this point, but for me it was backwards compatibility for the Xbox One. That announcement literally had me yelling YES! YES! YES! as I pounded my fists onto my bed in a fit of joy. That has been a problem with these new consoles for me (and I bought a One) as well as for a lot of other people. It has already undoubtedly swayed people more towards the One than the Four because when I’ve told people about it thus far, they’ve stated that they will undoubtedly buy the One and have literally wished Sony luck. That is a HUGE blow to PS Now, practically making it worthless, and the worst part about it is is that I’ve seen diehard PS Fanboys admitting that this a great move on Microsoft’s part while at the same time admitting that Sony has a big, big problem now, especially since they underestimated Microsoft hugely by just depending on multi-platform titles this holiday to carry them through. I will admit however that Horizon: Zero Dawn does have my attention, but what a shame that Sony has just basically given the holidays over to the Xbox.

  8. QOTW: I can’t believe that no one has said at this point, but for me it was backwards compatibility for the Xbox One. That announcement literally had me yelling YES! YES! 9. Mild correction there Henry but Nomura didn’t direct the original Final Fantasy VII, that was Yoshinori Kitase who also directed VI, X and Chrono Trigger. Nomura was only the character designer for VII. Versus XIII was actually the first time Nomura directed a proper Final Fantasy title and that turned out real well.

  10. Personally, I didn’t believe FFVII Remake until I saw the word “REMAKE” on the screen. The whole time they’re showing the trailer, I’m just going “Oh, this is going to be FFVII-2, or Advent Children: The Game.” and everyone’s screaming and I’m just like “No. Come on. Don’t be stupid. I won’t get fooled again.” And then “REMAKE” flashes on the screen and the next thing I remember my girlfriend is shaking me and freaking out because I immediately started hyperventilating until I blacked out.

That is how much of a surprise it was. If Jesus Christ descended from the sky in front of me and showed me me the trailer five minutes before it was on the big stage, I wouldn’t have believed it. I would have asked if it was an unfinished project from Monty Oum. Never in my entire life have I ever been as genuinely surprised as I was when that word popped up on the screen. I’m waiting for a collector’s edition announcement to see if it’s worth it or not before I pre-order, but if I do, it’ll be through your Amazon links! I’m hoping for a statuette of the giant erection I got from the announcement!

  11. QOTW: I loved seeing Horizon: Zero Dawn and Firewatch on Sony’s conference. Nothing is better than seeing a triple A game with badass warrior women hunting robotic dinosaurs and also seeing an indie walking simulator so mysterious I’m not 100% sure what you do in it.

    1. Some of those robodinos remind me a lot of Roger Dean’s (Psygnosis) creatures.

I do wish they would actually hire the guy for the game though. The robots in Horizon still look mostly like 99% of vidjagame robots out there. But that’s more of a problem in general with art direction in AAA games these days.

  12. I’m honestly quite surprised that the new South Park game didn’t show up on the top 5. That was much more surprising to me than TLG or Mario and Luigi x Paper Mario.

  13. OMG DOTFLIST LASERTIME THEME?!?! Must get a download of that… You should have him on as a guest!

  14. Dave Lang and Johnny V showing up completed trashed on the Giant Bomb E3 stream was made incredibly hilarious by the face that Johnny tweeted out Dave’s phone number.

  15. Fav moment of E3 2015: the very strong showing from VR/AR! All the coverage I’ve been watching and listening to, EVERYONE seems super high on the Rift, HoloLens, etc. Special call out to that spectacular HoloLens Minecraft demo and to In Tune, the VR human touching experience, on Rift I believe.

I feel like the past few years in videogaming have been, well… kinda dull and predictable. Since Pong, something new and exciting has always come along every gen or so to really push tech, and as a result, stories and experiences, forward. And so, it’s high time the game industry get another kick in the pants! I think VR/AR will be as huge as color games, polygons, online play, or lifelike graphics were when they came on the seen. Here’s to this gen finally getting moving!

Oh yeah, Deus Ex looks sick and Rare Replay has me super excited!

  16. QOTW: Fuggin Shenmue, that shit is proper Mexico! I was there when the first two came out, and coincidentally just finished the first with my fiancée, very excite.

HOWEVER, my joygasm was mixed with rage when the suit declared that playstation owners had been calling out for it. No, if that was the case then the Dreamcast wouldn’t have been royally gaped and the cost of the games would not have created a hole in Sega’s balance sheet big enough to dump all those PS2 copies of DOA2. Bastards. I shall buy a droople for this game.

  17. My favorite E3 moment was seeing Yoko Taro, the camera-shy director of the NieR series, come up on stage during the Square Enix conference dressed up with the super creepy head of Emil from the first NieR (seriously love that guy and I think he’s one of the unsung heroes in modern gaming).

I love NieR, and Square Enix making a sequel for it seemed like a NEAR impossibility (haha). But when I saw that trailer, stating that Platinum Games are developing it, then listing all the head staff working on it, ending with Yoko Taro, and then when Song of the Ancients started playing in the trailer and then when the title came up I just couldn’t handle myself. I screamed like a maniac. I cannot wait.
