Hayao Miyazaki may be retired, but his fans will keep his work timeless…

Henry Gilbert here, the host of Cape Crisis, member of the Laser Time Patreon, and lover master animator Hayao Miyazaki and his team at Studio Ghibli. I’ve seen all his films visited the Ghibli Museum twice, and have written about him extensively on this site. I even own all the Blu-rays (and am both excited and envious of this fancy collection). So any time I’m alerted to a new piece of Miyazaki love, I am more than ready to share it. So, without further ado, check out this

If you weren’t feeling chills by the end of that, I’m afraid to say you may not be human. Made by Vimeo user Dono, this masterfully blends clips from almost all of Miyazaki’s work, including little seen stuff like Sherlock Hound, and puts it all in a gorgeous 3D world that fits Ghibli’s style. So many heartwarming moments bleed into each other that by the end I was a pile of shivering nostalgia. And, of course, all the footage is timed perfectly to a track by Joe Hisaishi, the composer who has worked with Ghibli for decades. *exhale* So nice…

If you’re looking for further reading on Miyazaki’s animation, LT has so many articles to choose from. There’s the the best Miyazaki animation you’ve never seen, my essay praising Hayao’s first film The Castle of Cagliostro, and another wonderful tribute video. Best of all, the Laser Time crew made a group trip to the astoundingly lovely Ghibli Museum in Tokyo, and we have the travelogue to prove it!
