It’s been a great week for fans of retro games – and for GameStop employees, who now have an answer to the eternal question, “Do you have Battletoads?” The release of Rare Replay spurred our spoiled-child brains to talk about five games that didn’t make it into the collection, which we then discuss at length during the New Releases segment. Then it’s on to a smattering of Gamescom news and a look at the times you MacGyvered something in real life.
Question of the Week
Have you ever come up with your own lyrics for game music? Tell us what they were, and post a YouTube link to the tune so we can sing along.

*ahem*:
Mario,
Oh Mario,
You are my friend for fun-time adventures!
Mario,
Oh Mario,
I make you go into the green pipe.
Together we will fight evil monsters,*
You can jump real high (yes you can!)
We will go up to King Bowser’s castle,
In the sky.
* this line might be wrong, I don’t remember exactly.
WOW! Video Power! I had forgotten that show existed but I remember watching it and liking it. Just anything that talked about video games was good enough for me back then. funny how it was nearly deleted from my memory.
I feel like I’m the only person who isn’t interested in Rare Replay. Don’t get me wrong, I played a lot of Rare back in the day but I feel no need to revist pretty much any of it.
also in the end Chris, you’re right what Dave was remembering was the intro to a DeLaSoul song.
Ego trippin’
awesome. haven’t thought about that song since about sophomore year in highschool.

The Bowser’s castle and Luigi’s mansion levels in Mario Kart Double Dash, when playing against my Italian friend Gianandrea (pronounced John And Ray Uh). Starting at 24 seconds in:
Gianandrea, Gianandrea, Gianandrea is a crazy foooool.
I always would sing the “Amazin’ Fruit” jingle to Crash Man’s stage from MegaMan 2.

Why the sudden Donkey Kong Country hate? Besides the, by today’s standards, murkier visuals there’s nothing wrong the game. I only played and completed it for the first time when it was re-released on the Wii and I had no trouble with the overall gameplay, unlike many other games I’ve been playing on Rare Replay for the first time.
I was around 6 or 7 when I got Mario Land for my Game Boy, and I think my lyrical skills peaked then. Since I never beat it, I played the first few worlds endlessly and came up with this over the course of months.
