Your Destiny expands, toys come to life, and movie cars take a real beating this week on Amazon…
Family really is the most important thing, whether it’s the one you’re born into, or the one you build over time. True, I learned that lesson from one of the most aggressively dumb action franchises on Earth, but once I let go and embraced the ridiculousness of Fast & Furious I was much happier. True, that’s a similar situation to Winston at the end of 1984, but things worked out for well for him, right? Anyway, Furious 7 is just one of this week’s big Amazon new release, which we list each week right here on LT. Buy these items (or anything else) through those links helps out Laser Time at no extra to you, which definitely helps us in addition to the support of the Laser Time Patreon. Now, family members, lets drive as fast and furiously as possible into another week of new things!
Destiny: The Taken King Legendary Edition
In an age of every single game being annualized, it’s intriguing to see Bungie take a slightly different approach with its tentpole franchise Destiny. The divisive game definitely has a boatload of fans ready for more, and Taken King promises many more missions, upgrades, and a whole new level cap, plus Nolan North replacing the so-bad-it’s-good Dinklebot. And if this second installment of Destiny is enough to sell you on Sony’s current gen system, then it’s past time you got the Destiny: The Taken King Limited Edition 500GB PS4 Console Bundle that’s also out this week.
Forza Motorsport 6
It’s been close to a decade since I was behind the wheel of a car, and I don’t really plan on renewing my driver’s licence any time soon. However, even if cars cause me a ton of stress, I totally understand the appeal of driving around digital versions of impossible-to-own cars in games like Forza. This sixth entry looks to undo the failings of Forza 5, and early reviews seem to indicate Forza 6 just might have pulled it off. Also, if you’ve yet to get an Xbone, Forza now gives you collectors another opportunity with the Xbox One Forza 6 Limited Edition 1TB Bundle.
Skylanders SuperChargers Starter Pack
Before LEGO Dimensions, Disney Infinity, or amiibo, one modest spin-off of Spyro invented a whole new genre of games that has collected BILLIONS from kids and adults alike. Skylanders is back with a whole new collective of toys to life titles, but what’s the extra gimmick this time? Activision and Vicarious Visions are using this opportunity to add vehicles to the series, meaning now your toys can have toys! Also, Nintendo fans should keep a lookout for the Wii U version, as it features both Bowser and Donkey Kong as guest-starring characters!
Look, I’m not going to pretend I get hockey, or even that I know that EA Sports even makes a good hockey game anymore. However, the fact remains that there needed to be one more game to fill this slot and for once the Vita doesn’t have a new release starring almost nude teen girls. But if you can tell the difference between the Islanders, the Penguins, or whoever it is that plays in Edmonton, then maybe you’ll want to pick this up today.
It has been out for weeks digitally, but now you can get Furious 7 in disc form to relive the thoroughly dumb and enjoyable film. You’ll get to see Vin Diesel beating the shit out of people with wrenches, characters drive between three different buildings, The Rock fix a broken arm by flexing, and SO much many more gleefully stupid action film moments. Also, now you’ll be able to rewind scenes featuring Paul Walker to search for the parts that look very digitally altered. Oh, and don’t worry about crying at the end, because everyone did.
007: The Daniel Craig Collection
Let me get this out of the way: Daniel Craig is the best James Bond to date. He’s not a caveman like Sean Connery, a cornball like Roger Moore, or a smug douche like Pierce Brosnan. Craig’s Bond is the most human and complete 007 to date, and his films have really benefited from his more layered performance. Now, as his next film, SPECTRE, approaches, you can relive all his previous bonding moments in one HD collection. Boy, it feels like just yesterday I was showing off my new HDTV by watching a copy of Casino Royale. How time flies.
Mad Max 35th Anniversary
George Miller’s Mad Max has been reborn with the summer’s best film, Fury Road, so why not use this as an excuse to go back to the very beginning? 35 years ago, Miller didn’t have $100 million, and Mel Gibson wasn’t a famous anti-semite, or even famous at all. But with hard work and a real stretched budget, Mad Max was still able to tell a great story of post-apocalyptic murder and revenge. Sure, it may not have aged as well as Road Warrior, but Miller’s vision is still plenty compelling in his first ever journey with Max.
SPECIAL SALES NEWS! PRE-ORDER AMAZING MIYAZAKI BOX SET
The Collected Works of Hayao Miyazaki
Hayao Miyazaki is the most celebrated animator of the last 50 years, and for good reason. Films like My Neighbor Totoro, Kiki’s Delivery Service, and Princess Mononoke are some of the most fully realized worlds ever shown in theaters, capturing the hearts of people from just about every age and part of the planet. Now that he’s retired, Amazon has an exquisite looking special collection of every feature length film Miyazaki directed all in one box set. Plus, there are some fantastic bonuses as well that will likely justify the price. Out this November, this looks like a great gift for those you love most.
Meanwhile, the US Disney releases never go on sale, yet these are all set at just over $17!

One thought on “The Best New Amazon Releases: It’s About Family”
I still love the original Mad Max, I just recently watched Fury Road and loved it, I enjoyed it much more than Thunderdome, all though a big part of Mad Max for me is the car and the car I feel is only really in Mad Max and Road Warrior. I’ve been waiting for Furious 7 to come out, I’ve been itching to watch that again since seeing it in theaters.
