Supergirl Shows Off Her Powers In New Series Footage

Supergirl0922

It’s more than a month away, but at least we have some new shots of Kara showing off her powers…

The DC Universe won’t have its chance to challenge Marvel at the multiplex until 2016, but on network TV DC is firmly in first place. Agents of SHIELD keeps plugging along, but its been left in the dust by Flash, Arrow, and (to a lesser extent) Gotham. At the end of October another show starring a Justice League member launches, with Melissa Benoist as Kara Zor-El aka Kara Danvers aka Supergirl. Based on the breezy fun of the pilot, Supergirl is a full-on super powered adventure of a new hero, and the series seems to have a sizable special effects budget. In this newly released promo, you can see Kara show off all her powers, plus meet some new faces…

No one in the comments make any jokes about her super ability to blow, ok? Anyway, she seems near in power level to Man of Steel’s Superman, though I wonder how sparingly she’ll use complicated special effects that involve flying faster than sound and melting things with heat vision. Also, this brief trailer not only takes the time to establish the monster of the week formula, but also the potential love triangle between Kara, Jimmy–er, sorry– James Olsen and Winn Schott. Also, that smug looking industrialist you spotted is Maxwell Lord – in the comics he once owned the Justice League until he got too… let’s say controlling.

Even though it’s just getting started, Supergirl already has a lot of famous DC faces planned to appear. You’ve got Lois Lane’s father and sister, Zod’s second-in-command Non, Livewire, and Hank Henshaw hanging around. Perhaps the biggest early reveal has been Red Tornado, one of the Justice League’s most decorated members, though it looks like he starts off as Supergirl’s enemy. Also, he and the Avenger’s Vision already had a lot in common in the books, but now they look like twins separated at birth.

Supergirl gets the pretty major timeslot after The Big Bang Theory when Kara’s show premiere’s October 26, though I’m sure you’ll just watch it online like myself. Until then, you should catch up on some of her best comics, because she’s had a number of super adventures that don’t get as much recognition as they deserve.

  1. Yep, I’m majorly excited, especially with Maxwell Lord and Red Tornado (yes, he’s definitely Vision on TV, but I don’t have a problem with that).

  2. My TV schedule would be mostly filled with DC shows. I will be looking forward to Arrow and Flash the most. I will check out Supergirl and see how the first few episodes turn out. I’m not fan of Gotham nor Agents of Shield. I have heard both both shows have gotten better since their premieres but I’m already in the category of “don’t care for either show”.

  3. I don’t know… I see the CBS logo on it and immediately lose interest. I’m also afraid that they just showed us every instance of powers being used in that one trailer to entice viewers. I hope I’m wrong and that it does gain a decent fan base.
