Learn All About Conker: Gettin’ Medieval, Rare’s Cancelled Game

See what could’ve been in this squirrely, lost shooter from Rare and Microsoft…

With new games announced and the incredible retro collection known as Rare Replay, fans of the iconic UK developer are feeling more love than ever. However, the situation wasn’t so rosy for Rare. In fact, most of the ’00s were spent having many of their projects cancelled or never started in the first place. That included a new title for the filthy squirrel named Conker. After an Xbox remake, Rare made plans for a multiplayer follow-up that would never come to be. Now, for the first time ever, the team is giving the world a look at Conker: Gettin’ Medeivil…

First off, given how many ’90s films were referenced in the first Conker game, I’m not shocked the title is a riff on Pulp Fiction. Second, though Rare certainly seemed into it, I’m not all that sold on a multiplayer only Conker game – seems the total opposite of the 3rd person action game roots. And could you imagine how many fans would’ve complained that Death was the star instead of Conker? Sure, it would’ve been better than nothing, but Rare dodged a bullet here I think.

Still, it’s nice that Rare is sharing all this previously privileged info with the world. In a way, it’s like they’re exorcising they’re past demons at Microsoft so they can begin fresh. They no longer seem to be home for Kinect titles, and we can always cherish the past in Rare Replay. Though we didn’t have a ton of fun playing it on our live stream…
