Talking Simpsons – Two Cars in Every Garage and Three Eyes on Every Fish

We meet Blinky for the first time, learn to be cynical about politics, and watch Charles Montgomery Burns transform into a walking Citizen Kane reference, all in one episode. Only a moron wouldn’t listen to this episode of Talking Simpsons…

  1. It’s amazing how finally watching Citizen Kane last year makes me appreciate early Simpsons even more than I already did.

And it goes without saying, I’m loving Talking Simpsons so far. Proud to be a Patron and to have contributed to this show in my own small way.

  2. To answer your question about why some cities/states close bars on Election Day, I think the main reason was to help maintain public order back in the 18th and 19th centuries. Voting wasn’t done on a secret ballot in those days. Everyone would know how you voted, which made it quite easy for raucus mobs to threaten or even force others into voting for their guy. Many politicians used hired goons for this purpose, including Honest Abe. But there were also gangs, which often congregated in their chosen tavern (think Gangs of New York), who might get the drunken notion to lend a hand to their favored political machine. That seems more likely for the closures than any desire to avoid drunk-voting. Men in the old, weird America were pretty much drunk on a daily basis.

  3. That one hundred episode of laser time is my go to episode to get someone into laser time. its a good way to get them to know that you guys love the simpsons and its something they’ll have to deal with and if they love it as well then its a win win.

  4. gawd i love this episode. it made me so skiddish as a kid about eating fish. I had seen dirty water plenty of times and this just made me wonder what was in all the water. my mom said fish poop and fish pee. haha and she still won’t go in the ocean.
blinky was… hard to look at, even for a cartoon level uncanny character. those simpsons bug eyes, but three of them? freaky.

  5. Great episode guys. To me, when they are eating the fish, the little flapping part always came across as skin. It only moves when Mr. Burns moves his fork. I think it was adding to add to the gross factor of the fish.
