See The 100+ Backwards Compatible 360 Games On Xbox One

Old games become new again on Xbox One, but just which titles are included? Here’s the first taste…

As you may recall from Microsoft’s E3 2015 press conference, the Xbox One has been planning to add a feature the PS4 sorely lacks: backwards compatibility. The plan is to make 360 classics playable on an Xbox One, though MS hadn’t said when or how that was happening. Today is finally the day, as Microsoft revealed the 104 last-gen games that will be playable on your Xbone once you download a system update on November 12. Take a look…

Not a bad set of first games, and that’s only the start, at least according to Xbox folks. Starting in December there will be regular updates to that list, and if you have Games With Gold, every 360 game offered for free from this month onward will be backwards compatible as well. This counts for if you have the disc or have downloaded any of the above games before via your account. Here’s the official explanation…

Normally I groan at the constant system updates required by current systems, but this time I’m welcoming it with open arms. Finally these 360 games can stop collecting dust and get put to good use – I wonder if their used prices just went up.

These are the five I’ll be booting up ASAP once the update is live:

South Park: The Stick of Truth – I never beat it because I got distracted by the new-gen launch.

Mirror’s Edge – I’ve gotta catch up before the sequel comes out.

Pac-Man Championship Edition DX – It’s perhaps the best Pac-game ever made.

Streets of Rage Collection – I’m always ready to hear more of that music.

Prince of Persia – Assuming this refers to the 2008 reboot. That game was seriously underrated.

Which are you looking forward to testing out? And if you don’t own an Xbox One, is this enough to get you to buy an Xbone? Tell me what five 360 games you’re looking to play in the comments, because I’d really like to know!

  1. South Park and the Sega Vintage games will be the first I’ll boot up!

Hope that future games will include Red Dead and New Vegas!

  2. I clicked the Xbox Store link for Prince of Persia, and it is indeed the 2008 version! I’m looking forward to actually playing that one beyond the first few hours (I’ve started it 3 times since it released). Also, I missed South Park for exactly the same reason you did, and will be getting into that FOR SURE (it is my #1 pick). Gears Judgement is the only one I missed, so I can do that co-op (I believe it was free with Gold once) and LEGO Star Wars will be the perfect game to play with my 5-year-old, with whom I watched Jedi for the first time last night. I also hope to revisit Condemned, as it was the first game I played on my 360, and I’ve really been enjoying “scary” games lately with friends.

  3. This list is a wonderful time capsule of XBL games that were shat out and forgotten entirely. This service almost makes me want to buy a Bone, but after watching my PS4 sit in my closet collecting dust for the last 15 months, I can’t say I’ll be getting another next-gen system at all.

  4. Finally I can play Lode Runner on my Xbox One! In all seriousness, this is a good addition to the Xbone. I just tried PS Now again, and, while it’s serviceable, it really isn’t competitive with MS’s solution at all.

  5. Considering I have a lot of Sega titles for the X360, I’m happy that I can already see a few titles here. Hopefully, Sega Ultimate Genesis Collection is not too far behind.

This is a solid BC list, one that MS promised will be updated regularly (I hope). Also, MS stated that Halo Reach, Halo Wars, Bioshock, Bioshock II, and other big titles are coming out soon, so maybe this list will expand even more before the year is over. I still have all of my X360 games and my X360, so I wish a lot of my titles will transfer over. BC is huge plus for my Xbox1, especially my digital titles that I know won’t be stuck on X360.
