Correctly predicting WWE events can be tough, but if you survive, you’ll be rewarded on an upcoming Cheap Popcast! Check out what Dave, Hank, Carolyn and Brett think will happen at Survivor Series 2015 and then make your picks!
It’s almost time for Survivor Series! As we’ve been doing for years now, the reader who makes the most correct predictions in our monthly PPV contest gets to pick the song that plays at the conclusion of next month’s PPV recap episode of Cheap Popcast! First, though, a recap of the LT gang’s Hell in a Cell picks: Hank rebounded from a techincality loss last time to predict a perfect card, while Dave and Brett were one pick short. Amongst the readers, Tranqulbez22 bested everyone else, so their choice of Bayley’s NWA Hollywood theme will close out the next Cheap Popcast. Can’t figure out a song? Check out the regular Wrestler Theme Friday feature, where we rank themes from the likes of The Rock, Big Show, and Kane!
Anywho, here’s how the prediction contest goes. The LaserTime gang will make picks in this here article (the winner will get their picks on the first page the next month), and then open up the replies to you great listeners. You will then pick a winner (or if you’re feeling frisky, a rare draw/no contest) for each match (don’t worry about getting the finish right, I’m just looking for winners, if any), and then, just in case there’s a tie for correct predictions, pick a running time for the final match listed (the presumed main event) as a tiebreaker. Feel free to pick a Money in the Bank cash-in, but I don’t count non-announced matches, so correctly predicting one won’t affect your score. On the same note, if you pick the correct winner for the WWE title tournament finals then you still get the point even if the opponent isn’t correct.
What does the winning commenter get, though? Well, you can make your mark on the next PPV-themed Cheap Popcast episode by choosing a theme to close a segment. Pick the wrestler theme and include a YouTube URL to a wrestler’s theme alongside your predictions (including the running time of Taker/Kane-Wyatts match) and I’ll give you a shout-out on next month’s episode. Got it? Good. Now, onto each LaserTimer’s predictions!
1 – DEAN AMBROSE VS. KEVIN OWENS (WWE WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENT SEMIFINALS)
This one is so predictable at this point, and I’d like to go out on a limb and say Kevin will surprise everyone in an upset victory that’s a little sneaky, but I can’t imagine Vince actually letting Owens get that close to being the champion. No, both Shield members were destined for the finals, and that means Ambrose wins it.
2 – ROMAN REIGNS VS. ALBERTO DEL RIO (WWE WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENT SEMIFINALS)
Another forgone conclusion is Roman in the finals, and it’ll also be a pretty big deal that he’ll be the first guy to defeat Alberto since his return to the WWE. Reigns should win in dominant fashion. Perhaps they’ll make things a little more interesting by having del Rio injure Roman after the match to have Reigns go into the finals with a disadvantage.
3- WWE WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENT FINALS
So, we come to the finale we expected from the day it was announced. WWE is in a difficult position, and I hope they’ll go in a more interesting direction, turning one of them heel. But if Roman is the next Cena, then he can never be bad, meaning Dean has to sell out and steal the gold by aligning with Triple H. Roman misses the gold again and so begins the chase to Mania. Seems like his only chance to get his belt back is by winning the Royal Rumble…
4- DIVAS CHAMPION CHARLOTTE VS. PAIGE
This hasn’t been handled all too well, but any Diva feud without the Bellas is a fresh one. I see Charlotte retaining in her first real feud, establishing dominance. But when is Sasha getting a shot?
5- DOLPH ZIGGLER VS. TYLER BREEZE
If Breeze is to mean anything on the main roster, he needs an early win here. I can’t see the victory being clean, but Dolph should put him over clean – though I have to question having such similar looking opponents in the same match.
6- THE UNDERTAKER & KANE VS. TWO MEMBERS OF THE WYATT FAMILY
I love the nostalgia run of seeing the Brothers of Destruction back together. However, those two have fought more than they’ve helped each other. I don’t want to see Wyatt lose another big match, so perhaps we’ll see Kane turn on Taker thanks to the secret voodoo powers of Bray. Stranger things have happened.
Up next… Dave’s picks!
