Vidjagame Apocalypse 153 – Bringing Guns to a Fistfight

VGA153

The regular cast settles in this week for a look at five bosses that showed up to challenge fist-themed heroes while packing decidedly non-punchy firearms, often with predictable results. With that out of the way, we shift our focus to Superhot and this week’s torrent of re-releases, the announcement of Pokemon Sun and Moon, and the survival skills you’d want if you were literally bombed back to the Stone Age.

Question of the Week

What’s a game you loved at launch, but never played the DLC for?

  1. I played the entirety of Mass effect 2 without the two dlc characters. I think the original cast was interesting enough. I mean how can you resist having Mordin and Garrus in your team at all times?

  2. As someone that thinks the first Bioshock is one of the greatest games ever created and likes Bioshock: Infinite alright, Burial at Sea is one of the worst pieces of shit I have ever had the misfortune of playing. Not only is it boring and frustrating, it also attempts to rewrite the original Bioshock’s story to include Elizabeth as a crucial and vital part of it. Don’t give me that bullshit about it being an alternate timeline, it’s goddamn awful. I rarely get mad at anything in video games but Burial at Sea is the worst offender of any rage I have ever given anything. Fuck that DLC forever.

  3. QOTW:
Dishonored is one of my favorite games of all time. It is the only game that I’ve finished more than twice and it’s a game that I legitimately have seen every ending, not just looking it up on YouTube. I only played the first DLC for about 30 minutes and I have never touched the second DLC. With Dishonored 2 hopefully releasing this year, I feel like now is a good time to give them other go.

  4. QOTW:
For me it was the 2008 Prince of Persia. I ignored the man children complaining about how it wasn’t challenging enough and just went for it. The game was both fun and beautiful and I encourage anyone how hasn’t played it to pick it up. I felt the ending was satisfying but then the DLC was released and apparently it was “The real ending”. I would like to think there was an eternal debate about what the ending should be. That this was some kind of compromise among the development team or management. Im pretty sure the DLC wasn’t released on PC. So maybe someone at Ubisoft preferred the original ending but I don’t know. What I do know is the idea of paying for what might be the true ending rubbed me the wrong way. To this day I haven’t played the DLC.

    1. Same. I did feel it was a bit on the easy side. Cant say its aged well, started replaying it with the kids two weeks ago.
might have to youtube the dlc ending, thanks for reminding me

  5. It might be worth mentioning that you guys were playing European Spanish clips for that dub of The Warriors.

As someone who comes from Latin America, that dub sounds rather strange and fairly hilarious even to me.

  6. What’s a game you loved at launch, but never played the DLC for?

Almost every game that contains DLC. I usually play the game and for some reason my brain loses interest the minute i see those credits roll.
I’ll tell myself that I’ll go back and do the DLC or collectibles or whatever but I can never get back into it (i.E. Riddler trophies in Batman)

  7. Question of the week…What is a game you loved but never played the DLC for?
Bioshock: Infinite (Burial at Sea.) Since I’m not a fan of PVP arenas, I don’t really care for DLC that expands those areas of the game.
