Big Trouble In Little China

Want to see what you’re missing out on at Patreon? Join us at 6pm Pacific for live film commentary on the 1986 cult classic, John Carpenter’s Big Trouble In Little China!

If you aren’t a part of the Laser Time Patreon (and you REALLY should be a part of it), then you might not know we made a change to the Monday Night Movie commentaries! In case you hadn’t heard: From now on, the live stream of the movie commentary will be open to whoever can show up on time (check out the May movie schedule), though the archive/MP3 version of it will remain exclusive to our wonderful Patreon members (and did we mention that as little as $5 a month on the Laser Time Patreon is 100% worth it?!?!). So, what are we going to be watching, live, RIGHT HERE at 6pm Pacific time? It’s another 1986 film, and this month’s community choice: Big Trouble In Little China…

God damn, do I love this goofy movie. It’s such a fun little action film, and another fantastic collaboration between director John Carpenter and Kurt Russell. Plus, it takes place in San Francisco (Laser Time’s hometown) and it also inspired Raiden from Mortal Kombat.

If you’ve never seen it or it’s been awhile, keep this in mind: Kurt Russell’s Jack Burton isn’t just a great John Wayne impersonation, but Burton also fails at just about everything in the film. Seriously, Russell might be central to the poster, but it’s Egg Shen and Wang Chi are the real heroes of the film. And James Hong’s Lo Pan is perhaps the best performance ever by the under appreciated character actor.

You can buy the Digital Download on Amazon or even watch for free (with ads) on Crackle– or you can find a less legal way to see it, even if Egg Shen would look down on that. You know what ol’ Jack Burton always says at a time like this? Join usat 6pm Pacific to watch along on the Twitch stream below! And if you’re a Patreon supporter, you can download the MP3 archive the day after the stream!
