The Best New Amazon Releases: Overwatch Mutant Ninja Turtles

Blizzard aims their sights at a team-based shooter, Platinum Games presents a TMNT game, and some of Z-best movies hit Blu-ray in this week’s Amazon roundup!

Hooray! After a week that was main-evented by Homefront (sob), we’re back to big games arriving on Amazon, with some notable Blu-ray releases to boot. We’ve got Blizzard’s first major foray onto new-gen consoles (Dialbo III It’s Been On PC Forever Edition doesn’t count), a new Platinum Games release, one of the year’s biggest “comedies” and other big releases.  When it comes to games, though, don’t forget that every new physical release game comes with a 20% discount for Amazon Prime members (this does not include downloads and currency codes). With all of that out of the way, here’s this week’s HUGE games and movies!

Normally, we have to wait until the fall for FPS games to wage war with one another. This year, we’ve got another huge battle in the form of co-op-based hero shooters. 2K made the first move with the moderately well-received Battleborn, but the hype train has been moving a little faster for Overwatch. Blizzard tends to put a lot of work into any new release, so this should be a game to look out for upon release this week.  Overwatch is also available in a standard “Origins” package on PS4 (shown above) as well as on Xbox One and PC. There’s also a Collector’s Edition on PS4 , Xbox One, and PC. Collector’s or Origins, you’ll score 20% off if you have Amazon Prime!

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Mutants in Manhattan
Cowabunga! Granted, Activision hasn’t had the best track record with the turtles thus far, as their XBLA attempt didn’t fare well, and their cartoon tie-in similarly sunk. This time around, however, there’s slightly higher expectations as Platinum Games is in charge of making Mikey, Donny, Raph, and Leo work on new consoles ahead of the upcoming movie release. Will TMNTMIM outdo previous Plat-Acti team-ups like Korra and Transformers? We’ll find out soon and have plenty of places to find out, as you’ll be able to visit the Mutants in Manhattan on PS4 (shown above), Xbox One, PS3, and Xbox 360. Whichever platform you pick, you’ll get 20% off if you have Amazon Prime! That’s a turtle-y awesome deal!

Tropico 5 – Penultimate Edition
Wait, so this is the edition before the last edition? Weird grammar aside, the Tropico series has been well-received for its mixture of city building and combat simulation elements, whether it be on Steam or PlayStation 4 (where PS Plus members can currently snag the core game for free). If you’re an Xbone owner who wants to become El Presidente, though, the Penultimate Edition packs in all of the DLC to make the experience a tad more robust than what you’ll get for free on PS4. If the Penultimate offer is up your alley, you’ll score a 20% discount on Amazon Prime, so sign that bill, El Presidente!

Adam’s Venture Origin’s
I try very hard not to judge things too harshly before release. I don’t believe the new Ghostbusters is an affront to my childhood, I’m willing to give the new Independence Day movie a chance, heck, I watched (most of) the new Blu-ray release this week before leaving the theater. That said, I have a very morbid curiosity about Adam’s Venture Origins. Go on, click on the link and check out the Amazon page. This is an attempt to ride Uncharted’s coattails, right? We’re no longer in the era where a parent would mistake Croc for Crash Bandicoot, so I’m wondering what place good ol’ Ad Venture will have on the PlayStation 4 upon release. I do know that it’ll cost 20% less than its advertised $50 price tag to find out!

Zoolander 2
More like Blu-lander, am I right? You may be groaning at that pun, but rest assured it’s better than most of the jokes you’ll hear in Z2. While the original Zoolander is an underrated goldmine of late-90s comedy and trends, Z2 is too broad to capture fans of the original. I rarely walk out of movies (Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back was the last time I was event tempted), but I ditched Z2 after an hour to catch a showing of The Witch. It was the most frightening movie I’ve seen this year, but the prospect of watching the rest of Z2 was even scarier to me. However, maybe the comedy in the movie floated your boat, so there’s the link to buy it.

Finest Hours
Here’s another random movie that I happened to watch this year. Whether it be Titanic or Posiedon, I’m a sucker for seeing big ships sink on the big screen. Finest Hours did the job well because not only does it feature a capsizing boat, the movie itself also floundered in the water! I will say that Finest Hours is a nice period piece and the 50s-era romance story is downright keen, but the star of the show is seeing people race around to fix a boat and seeing ships get destroyed by killer storms. Plus, it’s a rare moment to see Chris Pine play a character who isn’t Captain Kirk or Wonder Woman’s boyfriend!

Finally, Charles In Charge: Origins is on Blu-ray! While I’ve never seen this movie from beginning to end, Zapped was a staple of weekend afternoon TV station programming, where I’d catch snippets of edited scenes featuring a telekinetic Scott Baio disrobing high school girls with his mind at the urging of his pal Willie Aames. Even though the two rose to prominence as the eponymous Mr. In Charge and his friend Buddy Lembec, you can see their friendship start in this film, and it’s never looked better than on Blu-ray!

Miyazaki fans should not miss this sale!

The Collected Works of Hayao Miyazaki
Hayao Miyazaki is the most celebrated animator of the last 50 years, and for good reason. Films like My Neighbor Totoro, Kiki’s Delivery Service, and Princess Mononoke are some of the most fully realized worlds ever shown in theaters, capturing the hearts of people from just about every age and part of the planet. Now that he’s retired, Amazon has an exquisite looking special collection of every feature length film Miyazaki directed all in one box set. Plus, there are some fantastic bonuses as well that will likely justify the price. Currently it’s less than $180, which is a fucking STEAL. If you love animation, BUY THIS.
