Vidjagame Apocalypse 167 – Reality-Show Games

VGA167

E3 is coming fast, so let’s distract ourselves just a little before the show starts with a Top 5 about (surprisingly competent) games based on “unscripted” television shows about “real” “people” who are “not entertainment lizards in hu-man guise.” The second segment gets a bit parkour-flavored, what with the one-two punch of Mirror’s Edge Catalyst and Watch Dogs 2’s reveal, and then it’s on to your most frustrating memories of losing a game to a glitch or hardware failure.

Question of the Week

What are you most excited to see out of E3 this year?

  1. Watching the Mirror’s Edge stream the LT crew did made me really disappointed. I loved the original despite it’s issues but this just looks like a mess that couldn’t even keep the core gameplay intact. Guess I’ll just go replay the first one for now…

  2. So glad you guys talked about Retro Game Challenge aka Game Center CX. Such an amazing game and a labor of love. IndiesZero developed the game and the sequel (but not the 3rd one). They later went on to make the FF: Theatrhythm games and the NES Remix games.

I highly recommend Retro Game Challenge on DS to all old school gamers. The sequel is even better, and there is a fan translation available.

Also, watch the Game Center CX TV show. There is a whole forum on Something Awful dedicated to releasing fansubbed versions. There are hundreds of episodes available.

  3. I have to say I am most interested in finding out more about Ghost Recon WildLands and Halo Wars 2. The last ghost Recon was one of my favorites story wise and I’d like to see where they’re going with the new one… and I usually don’t play RTS’s on console, but when I do they usually involve Halo. Oh and ScaleBound.

  4. I wonder if Henry knows that if you buy Retro Game Challenge today none of the money is going to the developer. His condemning of flash cards seemed out of line as well because you can get the second game translated. Here’s the website of the makers of the patch for those interested… http://www.gccxpatch.com/

I remember buying Retro Game Challenge new. I drove to the nearest GameStop the day it was released and bought maybe the only copy they had. It was glorious.
