  1. I love this episode so much. I know Dial Z for Zombies isn’t the best segment, but I still love it to death. Obviously the Krusty Doll and King Homer segments have stick with me forever, but god damn do I love the “Women and seamen don’t mix” “We know what you think Smithers” exchange.

  2. I know it would add more work to the already staggering workload you guys have but I would love it if the Halloween Specials had a different intro than the Eye On Springfield theme. Regardless, still amazing job. I’m probably in the minority but I love the zombie one. “You killed Zombie Flanders. He was a zombie?” was a tagline I have used for years and years.

  3. Here’s a popular reference I’m surprised nobody has brought up, not Talking Simpsons, not Simpsons Wikia, and not even SNPP (who probably have the best comprehensive gag-by-gag explanations of episode references).

When Homer flip-cocks the shotgun and points toward the door and says “To the book depository!” is a shot for shot reference to the scene in Terminator 2 when Arnold flip-cocks the shotgun and points it at the burning truck. Considering the movie came out a year prior it’s not surprising the animators choice of shotgun was that as opposed to the more generic double barreled shotgun Homer normally has.

  4. Also is it just me or is the third segment in every Halloween episode the weakest one? Always seems like they save the best ones for up-front, especially since the last one always sees the need to shoehorn in a wraparound to the opening segment no matter how clunky it is.

  5. Surprised that there wasn’t more love for the zombie segment, it’s still really strong. “He was a Zombie?” is right below “Mmmm forbidden donut” for iconic Halloween lines IMO. And then there’s “My mistake”, the zombies tapping Homer’s skull before concluding he had no brains, and Bart’s spellcasting. Rewatching the episode, I noticed that everyone who gets shot by Homer is hit off-screen. You only hear the gunshot and the body hitting the ground, I can’t recall seeing anyone get hit or even the flash of Homer’s gun.
