12/9/96 – MTV debuts Idiot Savants, a game show where contestants are quizzed on their most knowledgeable subject. I remember this because when I watched I wondered whether my category would be Simpsons or Back to the Future. Moot point since the show only lasted five months.
12/12/96 – CNNSI launches, a collaboration between CNN and Sports Illustrated. It would air NASCAR qualifying, Wimbledon matches, National Lacrosse League matches, and televised the now-defunct Women’s United Soccer Association before closing in 2002.
12/14/96 – Three comedic forces meet when Beavis and Butthead cameo on Norm MacDonald’s weekend update on SNL (skip to 40m44s of season 22, episode 9, play to 41m30s)
Two notable Saturday Morning staples ended their runs this week. On 12/12, Earthworm Jim’s last episode aired after 2 seasons and 23 episodes.
California Dreams, the teen show about an up and coming rock band, concluded after 5 seasons and 78 episodes. It aired after Saved by the Bell for quite some time and shared some of the same producers, too.

Also on this day, Doug’s Secret Christmas airs, in which Doug feels ignored by his family as they have another child and has a secret Christmas with Porkchop in his room. Doug’s little sister Cleopatra Dirtbike Funnie is born in this episode.
Last but not least, on 12/15/96, The Lois and Clark episode “Twas the Night Before Mxymas” airs, where Mister Mxyzptlk traps Superman in a time loop on Christmas eve, starring a notable 80s/90s comedian as the villain.

During this time, players may give awards to generals (increasing the number of troops they can command or items that increase their capabilities), persuade captive enemy generals to join the player’s army, search for items or recruit generals in the ruler’s territory, fortify castles, and save the game

12/11/2006 – A Sci-Fi Channel three day miniseries, The Lost Door airs, starring Peter Krause, Kevin Pollak, Julianna Margulies, and Elle Fanning. It’s about a mysterious hotel room that contains magical items within. Why is this so unheard of with that cast?!
12/12/2006 – Barbara Walters’ “The 12 Most Fascinating People of 2006” airs, featuring Andre Agassi; Sacha Baron Cohen; Patrick Dempsey; Joel Osteen; Steve Irwin & Terri Irwin; Jay-Z; Nancy Pelosi; Brad Pitt & Angelina Jolie; John Ramsey; Anna Wintour
The 2006 Spike Video Game Awards aired December 13, 2006, at the Galen Center in Los Angeles and were hosted by Samuel L. Jackson. The Game of the Year winner was The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, which beat out Gears of War, Guitar Hero 2, and Ōkami
12/13/06 – The final episode of the Nickelodeon cartoon The X’s airs, about a family of spies. it only aired for one season with 20 episodes, but it had a pretty notable cast with Patrick Warburton, Stephen Root, Chris Hardwick, and Wendie Malick as the stars and guests featuring the likes of Jason Schwartzman and Randy Savage.
12/14/06 – The Office episode “A Benihana Christmas” airs, where Michael Scott’s single mom girlfriend breaks up with him after he superimposes himself over her ex in a christmas photo, so he and Dwight find dates with Benihana waitresses instead
12/15/2006 – The final episode of Krypto The Super Dog airs on Cartoon Network
