Vidjagame Apocalypse 193 – Intrepid Reporters

Dead Rising 4 inspires yet another episode theme, as special guests Henry Gilbert and Wes Green joins us to focus on five playable journalists who keep little more than a camera lens between themselves and danger. Then it’s on to Telltale’s fifth Batman episode, Super Mario Run, Hitman and Overwatch adding holiday content, and the game-character holiday ornaments you’d be proud to display.

Question of the Week

  1. I think Nintendogs would do well on mobile due to it’s heavy use of touch screen. Also it would most likely attract younger future gaming enthusiasts and give them some lessons on care-taking and responsibility.

  2. I’m not sure if it’s unique to my experience, but the fifth episode of Telltale’s Batman was very glitchy when I played it. The first chapter had a super slow frame rate, and while that improved for the rest of the episode, there was still textures that failed to load – resulting in some people appearing only as floating eyeballs and teeth. It was both disturbing and hilarious, but I was disappointed to have to put up with that at the end of the season.

Still enjoyed the game overall, but I really wish Telltale wouldn’t start releasing episodes until more of the season had been done, and there was more quality control on bugs like this.

  3. I generally love him, but man am I tired of Chris bitching about Nintendo. I dread it when Nintendo news pops up on the podcast.

  4. QOTW: Which nintendo game would I like as a mobile:

Rhythm Heaven — the game is almost begging to be a mobile game. Nintendo could release 20 or so songs for free, then have you pay a buck for each level after that. They’d make bank and I know I’d happily give them my money. Come to think of it, are there that many rhythm-based games for mobile devices? Nintendo could corner the market, and all they’d need to do initially is port a bunch of songs from the recent 3ds offering… get on it, dudes! I can’t wait to be annoyed on the subway by hearing some dude without headphones playing that damn jazz/rockabilly frog level where that obnoxious billie holiday frog yells SING IT BOYS over and god damn over again…

  5. I think a great mobile game could be made out of Punch Out. It’s already a one screen arcadey puzzle like experience. There are plenty of Punch Out clones out on mobile. Except none of those have Nintendo’s attention to detail and quality. Punch Out on iPhone make it happen Nintendo!!!

  6. That “get down with the christmas” song is from 101.1 WRIF, my local hard rock/shock jock station. it’s weird to hear it here.

  7. What about Spider-Man? He’s as much a reporter as Frank West.
I know you never need to write stories or take pictures like a reporter in a Superman game, but Spider-Man/Peter Parker definitely punches out Mysterio and then immediately takes a photo of Mysterio unmasked in Spider-Man 2 for PS2.

  8. Hey Mikel, if it makes you feel any better about being lazy, I knew exactly where my hard copy of Red Dead Redemption was, and I still bought it digitally when it became backwards compatible.
