The first Thor film was surprisingly stylish and fun – two words I’d rarely attribute to the God of Thunder. The second lost a lot of both adjectives, delivering a so-so outing with a few interesting visual effects. Ragnarok, on the other hand. goes full Guardians of the Galaxy with classic rock, space drama and tons of crazy visual design…
HUGE shout out to Cate Blanchett’s Hela and her sick ass costume – you see her elsewhere in the trailer, presumably destroying Asgard and hurtling Thor into deeper, weirder space.
And that’s where he’ll meet Grandmaster (Goldblum), an elder obsessed with chance and gambling… and one likely to either wager or win an infinity stone. Toss in a confirmed Doctor Strange team-up and it’s verrrry likely we see the Soul Gem in this film.
Outside of these plot points, the trailer itself conveys a huge visual shift. Yes there’s still going to be lots of green screen, and the two images I chose happen to have a Snyder-esque palette going on, but just give the trailer a look and you’ll see lots more Marvel space-y stuff, which is a helpful way to bridge GOTG into the Infinity War.
I’m excited! The cast is nuts, the director is solid and the trailer did its hype man job. Gimme another one!
So excited for this! Also loving the ” we know each other from work” line as it feels like Earth Thor bleeding into Asgard Thor.
The happiness on Thor’s face when he sees Hulk completely sold this for me.
I woke up and my friend had linked me to the trailer already so it was pretty much the first thing I saw today and HOLY SHIT IT’S GREAT. I had been suuuuuuper into this with all their announcements, especially after I went and watched Hunt for the Wilderpeople and What We Do in the Shadows and this trailer is just perfecto. SO MUCH COLOUR.
I just Google’d the director of this and found out he directed What We Do in the Shadows and Hunt For The Wilderpeople. NOW I’m officially excited.
I know everyone loves the “He’s a friend from work” line, but that seems like a line way out of character for Thor to say.
