The Best New Amazon Releases: Star Wars Atomic Battlefront 2!

The biggest Star Wars game this generation hits consoles, while a kickass Charlize Theron movie hits Blu-ray, this week on Amazon!

Woot woot, time for another Amazon roundup, packed to the gills with great stuff to buy, but also some cool shit here on Laser Time! Around these parts, we have a new Laser Time about the worst critical reviews ever, a beautiful ode to Diddy Kong Racing, an episode of Vidjagame Apocalypse about fan-insertion games, a Thirty Twenty Ten about Super Mario Galaxy, Diddy Kong Racing, and The Running Man, and Talking Simpsons’ take on Homie the Clown. Laser Time Patreon supporters have a new Cheap Popcast commentary and a Bonus Time awaiting them, while Talking Simpsons’ Patreon touches on Bart vs Australia and a timely episode of The Critic where Jay dates his Australian friend’s sister! But you’re mainly here for the new games and movies, right?! Well, we have the last big games release week of the year here with some neat Blu-rays to boot, so check em out!

Star Wars Battlefront II -Elite Trooper Deluxe Edition (Deluxe Edition out Tuesday 11/14, Standard Edition out Friday 11/17)
Welp, we close up the shooter shop for 2017 with the biggest licensed gun game (or blaster, rather) of the year. We’ve been lucky enough to get some advance access to SWB2 here at Laser Time, and while the online multiplayer currently has the gaming populace in a tizzy, the campaign was surprisingly solid given the last game’s complete lack of a story. Playing roughly half of Battlefront 2’s campaign, I’ve found Iden Versio’s story more moving than most Star Wars stories, while frequent cuts to levels featuring the likes of Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, and Han Solo add a bit of familiarity to this story from a long time ago in a galaxy far away. We should hopefully be able to show you more during a stream this week, with dedicated thoughts on Vidjagame Apocalypse to follow.

LEGO Marvel Superheroes 2 (Out Tuesday 11/14)
It’s entirely possible that Justice League won’t be the best new superhero release of this week! A few days ahead of DC’s blockbuster crossover movie, gamers can put Marvel comic book stars in outrageous scenes with each other thanks to the always-dependable LEGO franchise. While you won’t see any astounding gameplay innovations, or an adventure sweeping enough to win Game of the Year awards, LEGO Marvel Superheroes 2 is going to deliver PLENTY of fanservice for superhero fans… perhaps even better than the big-budget film hitting multiplexes this week!

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
How crazy is it that this week’s best game might be a six year old game hitting a Nintendo console. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild has been the leading contender for Game of the Year since its release back in March, and if there’s any downside to that epic adventure, it’s been the subsequent six months lacking another major open world adventure to take on the go. Alongside a VR release which was a bit clunky when I played it a month ago, Skyrim is also hitting Switch this week, and I figure this may be the best way to FINALLY give this award-winning RPG a shot. Granted, you have to accept the dated presentation and lack of personality compared to Zelda, but this might just be the best adventure on Switch not starring Mario or Link!

Atomic Blonde
Atomic Blonde may have only had middling success at the box-office this year, but there are plenty of reasons that I’ll be checking out Blonde on Blu-ray. For one thing, Fast 8 reignited my love of seeing Charlize Theron kick butt, but then there’s the director. David Leitch doesn’t have a directorial resume a mile long, but the dude’s history as a stuntman is prolific, and he brought his action-focused style in a big way with John Wick. He’s also on tap to direct Deadpool 2, so I’m interested to see another of his action heroes at work with Atomic Blonde.
