Peep Chris Talking About the Legacy of Rankin-Bass on They Said, We Said’s YouToons Program

Unsurprisingly, I’ve still got a lot to say on the subject of Christmas specials. Oh, I’ve spared all of you in the last few years. Your disinterest was palpable, and we instead focused on less old timey, sentimental Holiday cheer, in favor of Laser Time Subjects like Christmas Horror Movies, our Kwanzaa Spectacular, and or course, Filthy Christmas Songs Volume 1 and Volume 2.

But if the They Said, We Said‘s YouToons show is willing to defy you cheerless Grinchy Edgelords, you best believe I’m here for it. Oh yes, THRILL as we talk for upwards of an hour about the legendarily “special” output of Rankin-Bass, makers of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, Frosty the Snowman, and a billion other Xmas specials based on songs and/or with a biblical bent.

Cheers to Kody Smith and Jonathan Dunning for inviting me on, genuinely caring about the Sonic Team of annual Christmas Content, and most importantly, using a picture of me where I look much less fat. Note the difference in Laser Time’s Cartoon Christmas Animation Festival, an event I just hosted featuring a dozen timeless Yuletide shorts, now available for $5 supporters of the Laser Time Patreon.

And of course, if you haven’t had a lick of the Laser Time Halloween Cartoon Festival, you need to get a rock of that shit ASAP. And by “ASAP” I mean 10 months in advance!

  1. Rankin Bass having “every day of their working life involving Christmas” sounds like it could be a Rankin Bass special. “The Boy Who Loved Christmas Too Much” or something.
