Anime-kers – Vidjagame Apocalypse 356

vidjagame apocalypse 356

This week’s release of One-Punch Man: A Hero Nobody Knows was precisely the shoddy excuse we needed to make like SNL’s “J-Pop America Fun Time Now!” and geek out over anime, as we discuss 5 games you might not have known were made by anime creators. It was a topic too big for Matty and Chris to cover alone, so we enlisted the help of two very special guests this week: TL Foster of the PNB podcast network and first-time guest B_Ron1417 of B-Ron Sports. Then we talk about this week’s news and new releases, the Xbox Series X and Animal Crossing: New Horizons announcements and more!

Question of the Week: What is an anime you’d love to see turned into a video game and why?

  1. QOTW: I would love a “Yuri on Ice” game. Hear me out on this. You have a Persona 3, 4, & 5 style time management daying sim gameplay loop. Do you spend the day with your running buddy to improve stamina or with the guy at ballet class to level up your grace and maybe learn a new move? The second half of the daily loop is practicing on the ice; stringing together moves like a Tony Hawk style kudos system with bonuses for combos, syncing with the music, etc. The tournament at specific dates are your boss fights and there are plenty of cute husbandos for your character to date.

  2. Before listening, wasn’t sure how the top 5 would be framed but ha, knew after #5, CT would fall in line somewhere, either #1 or 2.

  5. QotW answer: G Gundam as an action rpg. The music, the screaming, the absurdly amazing united nations of Gundams, it’s a secret top tier.
It’s my favorite of the Gundam series that I’ve watched and while most of the main characters are in the PlayStation fighting games, playing as Domon Kassu and his allies in a Platinum made stylish action rpg were you could eventually become Burning Gundam and Burning Finger fools into oblivion is something that I can only dream of.

Also, let me play as Africa Gundam, I’m deadass serious

  6. QotW Answer : Have you guys seen Golden Boy? It’s a 6 episode OVA from 1995 that is simply awesome! (And all on Youtube). It centers around Kantaro Oe, a 25 year old “Freeter” who travels across Japan on his bicycle working various entry level jobs with an unmatched fervor and passion for life. I would love to see a game set in the pastel colored mid 90’s japan. It would have job mini games, telltale-esque conversation trees, and beautiful bike trips between towns. Not to mention a dating sim aspect for the various love interests Kantaro meets on his journey.
I can already feel the nostalgia for a time I wasn’t conscious and place I’ve never been.
