Please Mr. Postman – Vidjagame Apocalypse 381

With the US Postal Service currently under siege, now seemed like a good time to grab friend of the show Leif Johnson and pay tribute to some of gaming’s greatest postal workers, who tirelessly deliver letters and packages that don’t really exist across virtual worlds. Then we talk about seeing our houses from Microsoft Flight Simulator, get hard in Mortal Shell, touch the Apple-Epic fight with a 10-foot pole, and talk about your videogame animal phobias.

Question of the Week: What’s the dumbest thing you’ve had delivered during the pandemic?

  1. QotW: I had to order replacement novelty ice cube trays. I got football shaped ones for my dad a few years back and they broke during the pandemic. He was using them too often with his beer.

  2. QOTW: My interest in cooking for myself and roommates has faded into the aether as of late. I’ll cook dinner maybe once, twice a week tops. All the rest of the time I’m eating sandwiches or protein bars for dinner. Thus, my most frequent purchase online as of the last few months has been a brand of protein bars which, due to the heat, have lately been melting mid-transit, so I’ve got a whole bunch of bars that melted and re-solidified into fun new (inconvenient, messy) shapes within the wrapper.

  3. QotW: As a 10 year USPS employee I wanted to thank the vidjagame apocalypse for the shout out and support!
In February I ordered a dumb, off-brand Nintendo themed rug for my game room. It took the company until March to finish making it. When it was sent out America had just canceled basketball and was panic buying toilet paper. Come July still no rug so I kindly asked if they could follow up. The next week I got not one but two rugs! So now I have two garish Nintendo rugs that predominantly feature Ultraman, Felix the cat, and the Golgo 13 guy (Duke Togo).

  4. QOTW: The only remotely stupid thing I ordered during lockdown was a bunch of D&D minis that I will never paint. I’m currently homebrewing a pirate campaign to DM with my bandmates and have prioritized making stupid maps and encounter sheets over dealing with any of my real adult problems.

Also, Chris! My account disappeared. Not the end of the world but kinda sad considering I made it when the only podcast on here was about Star Wars spinoffs and the forum wasn’t just a dick pill message board.

  5. QOTW: only thing I really ordered throughout all this was some “California medicine” since the shop near me was only allowing delivery orders

  6. QOTW: I build furniture as a hobby. In order to avoid making trips to the lumber yard, I ordered a small bulk order of black cherry boards to be delivered to my workshop. However, on delivery day, my building’s managers decided to repaint the trim around the exterior windows, so the delivery truck couldn’t make it to our loading dock. They ended up dropping about 800 pounds of lumber in the middle of our parking lot, which I then had to carry by hand, board by board, to the freight elevator and from there to my workspace. I couldn’t move the whole next day.
