It’s Like Dark Souls – Vidjagame Apocalypse 414

Thankfully, we’re long past the point where every unforgiving game gets compared to Dark Souls. What we’re talking about this week, with special guest Leif Johnson, are our favorite Souls-likes – that is, games that consciously borrow parts of Dark Souls’ formula (but aren’t made by From Software). Then it’s on to Outriders, Pac-Man 99, Borderlands movie news, and your favorite memories of the 3DS.

Question of the Week: When it comes to videogame movies, do you prefer to see a straight adaptation of a game’s events, or an original story or take on the material?

  1. QotW: It depends on the game. For something like say, Resident Evil, there’s enough story that a straight adaptation would work fine. Conversely, something like Mario Bros would probably work better with a loose adaptation with elements from the game (since mario really has no story).

  2. Hey I like Remnant: From The Ashes but y’all missed Immortal Unchained as the way more Souls-Like Shooter. Check it out if you haven’t yet!
