Top 10 Amazon releases for October 11th

Let’s try this again, shall we? You mind? C’mon… we’re only trying to count down the bestest Amazon releases of the week in order to earn a little scratch. Click through any link below costs you nothing, but kicks back a couple of farthings into Laser Time’s wallets. Oh, and last week we gave away a $20 Amazon gift certificate. Perhaps we’ll do that this week too… hmmmm

Red Dead Redemption: Game of the Year Edition
360   |  PS3

Red Dead Redemption is, without a doubt, one of my favorite games of the last goddamned decade! It’s not only a wholly respectable Western in its own right, I’d go so far to say it boasts the most impressive cohesion of storytelling and open-world gameplay up to this point, AND John Marston is one of the best new characters across all mediums. The GOTY edition comes with a dickload of DLC as well as the Undead Nightmare zombie expansion. If you haven’t bit yet, here’s your chance to do so at an extremely low price.

Green Lantern

After taking in all the bad reviews, I felt like I saw a completely different movie than the critics. I can only guess some went in to the film not expecting certain “cinematically silly” aspects like Emerald Will Power and space cops, because I thought it was an incredibly admirable effort put towards what has to be one of the hardest superheroes to adapt to film. I even saw it with two of the most hardcore  comic dorks I know, Brett and Henry, and they too were baffled by the critical panning. Fuck the haters – I can’t wait to watch it again. Also available on a standalone disc and 3D Blu-ray.

Forza 4

I love, love, LOVE me some Forza! That said, I’m a fan of racing and not necessarily of cars, so I’m not entirely sold on replacing my copy of Forza 3. However, I’ve always loved the series less dense approach to automotive porn, and the this here entry is even more accessible than ever before. Plus, I can’t help but love the infusion with the guys from Top Gear. Forza 4 is also available in a reasonably priced Limited Edition set.

Ace Combat: Assault Horizon
360
  |  PS3

Brett’s a huge Ace Combat fan, however, it’s everyone else I know who’s singing the praises of this game. Apparently, Assault Horizon finally bridges the gap between kickass gameplay and the Top Gun fetishes of hardcore plane nuts. Unlike the last couple of Ace Combats, this one might be worth everybody checking out.

Horrible Bosses

Haven’t seen this yet, but if there’s anything I love more than a well-reviewed, R-rated comedy, it’s the leading trio of actors responsible for some of the best television this decade. And although I may not be a fan of the all of the bosses (Spacey aside), they look pretty fucking awesome in their hammy departure roles.

Aliens Infestation

Heard of Way Forward? They’re the developers behind beatass sprite-happy titles like Batman: Brave and the Bold and A Boy and his Blob. They’re not only one of the few developers (other than Nintendo) keeping hardcore DS titles on the alive, they’re actually making movie licensed fare look respectable. And this one’s shelled in fucking Aliens! What more do you need to know?!

Dead Rising 2: Off the Record
360
  |  PS3

What’s this?! Why it’s a low-priced revision of Dead Rising 2. Although this time they’ve improved certain time-based objective grievances, added better save points, and actually included the character everyone loved from the first game. Oh, and something about a dildo gun…

Tree of Life

Can’t wait to check this one out, even in spite of the negative stuff I’ve heard. Some have called Tree of Life grandiose, unnecessarily dense, and slightly egocentric, but when a reclusive guy like Terrence Malick comes out of hiding to film a movie almost entirely in secret, I’m interested.

Sesame Street: Once Upon a Monster

This is impossible not to love. I mean, assuming you’ve got kids, Kinect, and an undying love for all things Muppet. Getting a company like Double Fine, the devs behind Brutal Legend, Stacking and the Monkey Island series, to create a Sesame Street game is quite simply a stroke of utter brilliance and the game will charm the pants off you should you give it a chance.

  1. Ok, was on my other computer and wasn’t logged in. So just in case I have to be officially logged in to qualify for the prize:

There’s only 8 releases listed, when you said there would be 10! YOU LIED TO US! 😉

That is, if that’s what you’re looking for. Haha

      1. Hehe, glad I could help! Ok, now there’s 9 listed, still not the promised 10 😉 That’s all I can notice on such a cursory glance, as I’m trying to finish up a translation right now and can’t distract myself further. Ok, I’m really getting back to that now… 😛

  2. If you don’t count different copies of the same product (360 & PS3 copies for example) there are technically 12 things listed (3 are just not new releases)

  3. I can’t forgive Terrence Malick since I sat through “The New World.” That movie was horrible. I go into fits thinking about it

  4. Also, why is Ace Combat listed twice? Did Brett put you up to it? Show me, on the doll, where he touched you.

  5. I’m going to say…Sims 3: Pets, or Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. I’m pretty sure both of those games have fishies in them.

  6. YO! Watch out Christopher, Monkey Island was not developed by Double Fine. You gettin’ yo self inta the hardest battle of the gangstas of them all: copyright protection.

I love ya to much to see ya get hurt babe.

  7. The UK Amazon never does any of store credit or bonuses that your fancy American one does. Stupid island…
