Asura’s Wrath  360  |  PS3
I imagine the reviews will be pretty divisive on this one. From the early playthroughs I had, I remember almost nothing of the “core” gameplay. Third-person action action/beat ’em up… I think?! The biggest takeaway is without a doubt the random ass quicktime events, a mechanic that’s much poo-pooed in the gaming world. Me, I fucking loved it! I don’t mind for one second if a game chooses to build itself upon randomly contextualized inputs as long as what’s on screen is something I’ve never seen before, and almost EVERYTHING in Asura’s Wrath is ridiculously, wonderfully awesome. Have you seen the trailers? Every bit of it’s bizarrely unique, wild outlandishness produced a Wow Factor in me, and that’s something that can’t honestly be said about a billion other Triple-A titles coming out this late in the console generation.

Puss in Boots
I’m one of those assholes who’s fiercely critical of Shrek series for almost no reason. I say “almost” because I remember it having being in competition with The Incredibles, kinda my favorite Pixar flick, and as an animation fan – YES, I’ll admit it! – it’s popularity disgusts me more than anything. It’s got Mike Myers and Eddie Murphy doing things you’ve seen a billion times before, Cameron Diaz and other actors doing basically nothing, and it sends up fucking fairy tales… HOW ORIGINAL?!?! That said, the best and most wholly original thing about the entire franchise is Antonio Banderas’ kitty cat character, so if this franchise absolutely MUST limp along, I’m glad it’s with Puss.

Metal Gear Solid 3DS
Ah, and here we have the Metal Gear that lost me. I’ve always wanted to revisit this, but I highly doubt I’ll be doing it on 3DS just for the added dimension. This version basically requires the 3DS’ Circle Pad Pro, and once you add that cost to the game, you could’ve bought the Metal Gear Solid HD trilogy twice.

Tower Heist
God help me… Why do I want to see this so bad! Damn near everything ever made by Brett Ratner is either extremely forgettable, or utterly disposable. (Can you tell I haven’t forgiven him for ruining the X-Men Trilogy?!) But this…. man, I dunno. It’s difficult to resist seeing a heist caper starring Zoolander, Axel Foley, Ferris Bueller and Hawkeye. Wonder if this release is meant to rub the Oscar’s noses in the fag-free ceremony that could’ve been.

Speaking of Oscars, look what’s getting rereleased just in time to validate the single greatest move ever committed by the Academy! Here we have Eastwood directing himself in what’s basically a story and career send off to the icon he created. There aren’t enough great things to say about this amazing fucking movie. What was disappointing to me about The Expendables is that Stallone didn’t do this with the caricature of himself and his buddies. But that’s neither here nor there…

Syndicate  360  |  PS3
I know next to nothing about this game, nor the storied original that inspired it. What I do know is this: You basically have a few hours left to buy it through Amazon and get TWENTY DOLLARS worth of in-store credit. Do that shit!
