Wanderlust
Thank God Wet Hot American Summer is finally getting elevated to “classic” status, and I also encourage everyone out there to see the vignette-tastic, biblical comedy The Ten as well. This too comes from writers Ken Marino and David Wain, but you’ll excuse me if I simply refer to it as being “brought to you by the guys from The State!” I fucking loved that short-lived MTV sketch comedy series, and you’ll find more than a few appearances from that eleven member strong ensemble.

LEGO Batman 2: DC Superheroes  360  |  PS3  |  PSVita
For all intents and purposes, this is basically LEGO Justice League, and that alone has me interested. [INSERT ELEGANT CAPE CRISIS PLUG] I thought I was over the charm of the LEGO game series, but a brief hands on at E3 brought it back in a big way simply by chocking itself so full of glorious comic book characters and references. Not sure which platform I’ll pick this up on, but the Vita version has me the most intrigued. Not just due to the exclusive characters, mind you. It’s cheaper, looks and plays exactly the same, and something about it seems perfectly suited for portable play on planes, trains and automobiles (please note the intro to this week’s episode Laser Time!)

Louie Season 2
Probably the funniest thing on TV right now, brought to you by one of the funniest comedians currently working. Louis CK might also be the hardest working comic out there right now, since he seems to release an new hour special every year, and he writes, directs, and edits most Louie episodes solo. The trade off for being an almost One Man Operation is damn near 100% creative freedom, which makes for one of the most bizarre and creatively refreshing things on television. This season Louie goes to Iraq, confronts Dane Cook, and bangs Joan Rivers!

Pokemon Conquest
This bizarre spin on Nintendo’s famous Pocket Monsters puts the ‘mon in a strategy game for (shockingly) the first time ever. Mixing with the niche series Nobunaga’s Ambition, Conquest is perfect for fans of Fire Emblem or Final Fantasy Tactics that wish those games were set in feudal Japan.

Project X
I haven’t seen this one, but I certainly plan to, given that Chronicle recently rekindled my love for “found footage films” like Cloverfield and The Blair Witch Project. Actually, I wanna see this first-person account of the ragingest party ever simply due to the small amount of controversy it generated over teenagers, booze, and tits. After all, that’s when you really get into that stuff, IMO. Get it out of your system when you have no responsibilities, because there’s nothing sadder than the alcoholic dad at the strip club.

Civilization V: God & Kings expansion  |  PC Download
Won’t profess to know much about this one, but I imagine Wilde’s wetting himself, and my buddy Coop seemed to dig on it. Either way, it’s worth mentioning solely so I have an excuse to dig up flabslapper‘s amazing video of the Civ 5 sketch we did ages ago on TalkRadar:

Brave  Nintendo DS  |  360  |  PS3
Jesus, what a week for the kiddies? I wouldn’t go out of my way to recommend this, as Pixar’s games have a much worse track record than its films. But I can’t wait to see the movie, so if you have offspring begging to play this thing, buy through us, won’t you?!

Sister Act 1 & 2: 20th Anniversary Collection
Fuck… 20th Anniversary?! Man, I feel old… Wait, are we really putting this out there as a recommendation? I’m not sure if they hold up even slightly, however, they may be worth revisiting for an ironic chuckle.

The FP
Had the good fortune to meet the cast and director of this silly little tribute to Southern California. And by “tribute,” I mean a movie that seems to take place following an 80s apocalypse, where the world has turned Dance Dance Revolution into a underground bloodsport. No, seriouly – watch the NSFW trailer! It’s a fun one-note joke that manages to sustain itself  for its entire run time, so I absolutely recommend The FP to fans of the 1908s “Triumph Over Adversity” genre.

  1. That Civ sketch is still hilarious.

Also, pretty pumped for Pokemon Conquest. I love me some SRPGs and Pokeyman.

  2. Hmm let’s see Lasertime – Wanderlust: I totally wanted to see so I’m glad it’s out. Another movie that came out that you didn’t list is “Jeff Lives At Home” which is supposed to be a surprisingly light-hearted comedy. As a fan of Dane Cook, I hope him and CK buried the hatchet. Lasertime. If you feel old Chris and you’re only a few years older than I, how am I supposed to feel Lasertime when I already feel old.

    Lasertime.

  3. I’m still loving The Walking Dead graphic novels, so much so that I read the monthly copy. However I cannot get into the TV show. I HIGHLY suggest downloading The Walking Dead video game release recently. Amazon doesn’t sell download console titles but you can get the Mac/Pc version from them.

  4. The Lego games have always been a fun diversion, but Lego Batman 2 actually looks like it has some ambition and spark behind it, certainly beyond any of the previous Lego games. Color me quite interested! Also, even before this comes out, can we safely say that, at this point, this will be the greatest Superman game ever made?

  5. if i am picked twice in a row i will definitely donate at least enough for a keychain and tweet some jackassery with a link to your site because for real thanks for keeping me entertained for the last couple few years in a way that sincerely appeals to both my nostalgic and cutting edge nerdery. YOU DESERVE BETTER.

  6. i plan on buying 80$ of criterion, a giftcard sure would help, obligatory plead for Canadian amazon links, yada yada

  7. Oh man so much nerdy good stuff this week think i might have to grab that batman a buddy has been talking about it nonstop since tuesday.

  8. CHRIS – Lego Batman 2 on Vita and 3DS is NOT, repeat, NOT the same game as on consoles. TT Games always give the handheld versions to another studio, and they’re never as good. Get the PC/360/PS3 version (PC version’s incredibly cheap, incidentally).
