  1. Long time listener, first time calle… commenter.

Can you have nostalgia for 4 year old DS games? Turns out; yes you can.

I started replaying Castlevania from the first title this october and aim to keep up on the games with the titles you discuss each week. I just started Portrait 🙂

  2. Liking much! Thank you for delivering on your promise of weekly VGvampires. I can’t wait for next week as those are the only Castlevanias I’m not familiar with.

I must be a lone weirdo in thinking Harmony of Dissonance is better than Aria of Sorrow.

One of my favorite sequences in a 2D game happens in Harmony:
So you’re at the bottom of a tall chamber and you hit a switch. Blood begins to fill the chamber and you float on a platform to the top. Once you reach the top you see a huge monster crushed by spikes and you realize it was this monster’s blood that filled the room and it was you that hit the switch to end him.

Also, the dancing wiggle whip from Castlevania IV was back!

Another small bit of trivia regarding the music in Harmony of Dissonance:
It was once rumored that Mana, the band leader of JRock goth groups Malice Mizer, Moi dix Mois was composing the soundtrack. Here is a pic of him and Igarashi doing an interview while Harmony was in development: http://a4.ec-images.myspacecdn.com/images01/91/057ac1a25bc58c883b2840449d90f02d/l.gif
