Anarchy Reigns  360  |  PS3
Cyborgs, Bayonetta, really fat pig-men, explosions… Anarchy Reigns does appear to have all the things I love in this world PLUS it’s cheap as balls. $30 is a pretty damn good price.

Dredd
So. Many. People. Get. Shot. So many. And it’s wonderful. It’s ridiculous and bloody and never really takes itself too seriously. Also, Rob Schneider is nowhere to be seen, which is perhaps the biggest bonus of all.

Stolen
Okay… So, STOLEN is about a man who gets a phone call telling him his daughter has been kidnapped and he has to be a badass and get her back. I wonder what the pitch meeting for this movie was like. “We want to make Taken, but with Nicolas Cage instead of Liam Neeson.” “PERFECT! Now let’s go snort coke off that dead hooker’s stomach.” (That last part is how I imagine all Hollywood meetings end.)

The Goonies/Gremlins/Gremlins 2
Three awesome films in one awesome collection. What’s not to like? Too bad this came out after the holidays. I totally would have bought a few copies for stocking stuffers.

RELEASED DURING THE HOLIDAY BREAK

Total Recall
This remake of the 1990 sci-fi adventure stars Colin Farrell’s eyebrows, Kate Beckinsale (yes please), Jessica Biel (yes please), and Bryan Cranston. There’s no Mars and no mutants (except three-breasted Kaitlyn Leeb [yes please]) but if those changes don’t bug you it’s a fun, action-y trip into the world of Rekall. Really action-y. Like, so action-y it sometimes forgets people can talk and display emotions.

Pitch Perfect
I… I don’t even know, guys. I’m just leaving this here. I won’t judge you for buying this (yes I will).

Sleepwalk With Me
I LOVE hearing people’s crazy sleepwalking stories, and comedian Mike Burbiglia has the craziest stories I’ve ever heard. Sleepwalk with me is full of anecdotes from his life, including his often terrifying sleepwalking habits.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles /
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze / Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III: Turtles in Time
All the early 90s live-action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movies are now available on Blu-ray. If you are like me and enjoy reliving your childhood (and realizing just how ridiculous everything you loved is) these are definitely worth your time.

Airplane
Yes please and also thank you. I bought this the SECOND I saw the Blu-ray logo at the top despite owning at least two copies already.

CLUE
CLUE is easily one of my favorite movies of all time and if you haven’t already seen I recommend just throwing down the $14 bucks because it is absolutely worth owning. This movie forever changed the way I play CLUE. The whole cast is incredible and to this day I’m reasonably certain I’m going to marry Tim Curry, despite the fact that he is now 66 and not particularly handsome anymore.

Trading Places
Yet another great comedy. Trading Places is one of Eddie Murphy’s early greats, along with Beverly Hills Cop and Harlem Nights. Back in the days before The Nutty Professor and Pluto Nash and whatever other garbage he’s been in.

Tommy Boy
Oh the holidays were so good to me. Trading Places, Airplane, CLUE, and Tommy Boy all dropped into my lap in the span of a week. I think I can die happy now.

Ghost
OOOOOOOH MYYYYY LOOOOVE, MY DAAAARLING, I’VE HUUUUNGERED FOR YOUUUUUR TOUCH. I don’t actually think you need to go out and buy Ghost on Blu-ray, I just wanted to get that song stuck in your heads.

  1. Dredd is AMAZING…it really washes out the taste of that horrible Stallone/Assante/Schneider cocktail

  2. Trading Places may be my favorite 80’s comedy, right behind Blues Brothers. I don’t know if I can hold off on buying those now that they’re on blu ray.

  3. Pitch Perfect? Ugghhh That movie is unbearable. Though I may preorder Ni No Kuni! The demo was pretty impressive.

  4. I really regret not seeing Dredd in theaters. I’m gonna rent that this week.

And I think I’d watch Pitch Perfect before Total Recall. Shit looks bland as hell, yo. But neither before Stolen. Hoping it’s bad in a “end of Wicker Man” way rather than bad in a “Next” way.

  5. Kinda want to get Total Recall just to play some God of War but that The Goonies/Gremlins/Gremlins 2 looks mighty tempting! Gremlins!!!

  6. I’m most definitely getting Dredd on Bluray, Stolen too, even though I have never heard of it I fail to see how it could be bad in any way.

  7. Already picked up both Anarchy Reigns and Dredd.
Dredd is one of the best films of last year which no one saw. Just a great, old-school action film.

  8. I’m really sad I didn’t get to see Dredd in the theaters. It was just impossible to see it anywhere NOT in 3D, which is the death-knell for any film that isn’t CGI or The Avengers.

  9. Still haven’t seen the new Total Recall, i love the first one so i’m abit hesitant to watch it. ”SUE ME, DICK HEAD!”

  10. really cool to see Anarchy Reigns getting a budget price right off the bat. Definately put it on my radar

  11. I forgot Anarchy Reigns was so cheap, and Platinum hasn’t put a foot wrong as far as I’m concerned, definitely picking it up.

  12. Up north i got the Goonies Gremlins pack on boxing day (Dec 26th) for 15 loonies, didn’t know it wasn’t out yet

  13. This article was written by a woman who likes seeing three breasted wemons? Where can I buy a plastic surgeon with flimsy morals and steady hands?

    Also Dredd as dreadfully good!

  14. Checked out the first issue of Fatale (on Henry’s recommendation) for free on Comixology. Now I might have to start getting the trades. And of course you know the site I’ll be clicking through when I do buy it. That’s right… hulkdick.com!

  15. If I didn’t just get the Street Fighter 25th Anniversary Collection I’d be all over Anarchy Reigns right now. Anarchy Reigns has such a smokin good rap soundtrack too. Some of the lyrics are kind of corny but it’s the perfect music to pump you up.

  16. I missed out on Dredd because the theater near my school didn’t even play it, but I really need to see it. It seems from the comments that everyone liked it.

  17. Am I going to be the only one defending Pitch Perfect? Fine, it aint that bad. Other than that I need to go pick up Anarchy Reigns, I’m surprised it’s so cheap.

    1. No, you won’t be the only one defending Pitch Perfect. Way funnier than I thought it would be. I gave my girlfriend crap as she ordered this on demand, but when it got started, I shut my laptop and laughed along with her. Don’t think I’d buy it, but it’s worth seeing once. I didn’t fall asleep at the end like I did with Total Recall.

  18. Dredd was awesome, definitely my favourite use of 3D in a film. Everybody who missed it in cinemas should be shamed

  19. Wasn’t impressed with Total Recall. Too few special effects! What’s with all the emotions and stuff anyway? Might pick up Dredd though.

  20. Wow, that The Goonies/Gremlins/Gremlins 2 Bluray pack is awesome! Why the hell was that not released before Xmas??? Wasted opportunity…

  21. Just watched Dredd, unfortunately had to wait for Blu Ray release, it was awesome. I love how his character is so consistent and unyielding, like Boba Fett or the Terminator. Cut the bull, straight to the action. Cool movie!

  22. wow that goonies/gremlins pack looks pretty sweet. yeah, that definitely should’ve come out during the holidays.

  23. Why not haha, picked up anarchy reigns already and I gotta buy my books for school haha, I’ll use the links

  24. Everytime I think of the Goonies, I remember Chris’ story where he got fondled by an older man after watching it.

  25. Ever since that movie was released in 1990, I have seen every conceivable variation of what I call ‘Ghosting’. It’s guy-on-girl, girl-on-guy, the hilarious guy-on-guy… So since it never stopped, I have to adopt a zero-Ghost tolerance policy. If you so much as hum three notes from that Righteous Brothers song, so help me God I will come at you with everything I’ve got!

    OK?

    Let’s have a great time!
