Cheap Popcast #16 – Heck in a Sec

The ending may have sucked hosewater, but Dave, Hank, Grimm, and Chris crack plenty of wise about the rest of WWE Hell in a Cell. After Dave denounces this week’s Raw, we bring in clips from WWE videogames past to lighten our moods with horrible green-screen promos.

  1. Anyone else who does not watch wrestling, never seen any pay per view, really enjoy Cheap Popcast or am I the only one.

I love this podcast and the occasional Masked Man on the grantland network, I am far more likely to watch wrestling documentaries on Netflex because of my enjoyment of these podcasts than I am to actually watch any wrestling event.

    1. I actually only found Lasertime because of Cheap Podcast. A love wrestling and games, so a friend linked me and told me to listen to this.

Then I went back to listen to ALL of Lasertime.

    2. Yea I used to write off wrestling as just a stupid form of entertainment (silly me) but I listened to this just hungry for more of the hosts voices. While I still don’t think it’ll get me super into it, I am interested in how the matches turned out and maybe one of these days I’ll give it a looksy, as it’s been…years seens I’ve watched anything wrestling related. Plus my younger siblings seem to be into it so maybe not a horrid idea. At this point I do very much enjoy listening to the podcast and I like how mysterious it still all is to me.

  2. I had no interest in wrestling at all before Cheap Popcast, but I became obsessed with the show and through it got really hardcore into wrestling. I started watching modern WWE stuff with Summerslam this year, but they’ve been handling the brilliant Daniel Bryan so badly these past few weeks, that I’ve had to go into the back catalogues and watch all kinds of old classic WWE matches, as well as some fantastic WCW cruiserweight stuff, as well as some of the awesome documentaries that are out there. So yeah, I can thank Dave and Henry’s passion for my newfound love of wrestling.

  3. Now can we get everyone to gather round and play some WWE 2k14 on the Laser Time Twitch stream? That old school wrestling games stream is still one of my favorite moments in the, albeit brief, history of Laser Time.

  4. Thanks for all of the kind words! Glad the show’s still being well received (almost) one year in. Joe, Ampatient, I’ve definitely taken both requests into consideration.

  5. I think it’s interesting that people who don’t watch wrestling still listen to this podcast, but I guess I don’t read comics and I like Cape Crisis, so that’s pretty much the same thing. For those of you that can’t get into WWE but still want to try and get into wrestling, I’d recommend CHIKARA. The company is on a bit of a hiatus right now/is dead, but it’s still some of the most entertaining wrestling I’ve ever seen. I guess the best way to describe it is if you wrote a wrestling promotion like a comic book. It’s much less serious than WWE, and they do a lot of comedy stuff, but most of the wrestling is still really solid. Some WWE guys wrestled there too, like Daniel Bryan and Antonio Cesaro. If you can find them, try and watch the King of Trios tournaments, they were like their WrestleMania basically. I think the more recent ones are still on youtube if you look hard enough.

  6. since you guys all like video games enough that you all went onto video game journalism, and you also like wrestling enough to do a podcast about it… is there ever any cross over on the form of you guys watching the VGCW?

watching sonic the hedgehog wrestle knuckles…
it’s about as cartoony as wrestling can get i think, but it’s maybe one of the purest forms of online streaming entertainment.

  7. I love VGCW, Smars. It’s been brought up once or twice (I think Grimm touched on it during the Royal Rumble episode), but I’m kinda kicking myself for not bringing it up on this one amidst all the game talk. Any time devs talked about WWE Universe and Create-a-Wrestler stuff during 2K14 previews, my main thought was “how will this make VGCW even better?”

  8. The recent WWE is the only time since around 2006 that i’ve actually watched wrestling at all. It’s 99% because of Gold Dust returning though. One of my favorite wrasslers ever.
