Use the process of elimination, make the most correct WWE predictions, and you could get your choice of wrestler theme closing out next month’s Cheap Popcast. Read on for Dave’s picks and then make yours!
Hey all! If you haven’t heard on Cheap Popcast lately, I’m made a monthly tradition of predicting the results of a pre-determined event! The reader who makes the most correct predictions gets to pick the song that plays at the conclusion of next month’s episode of Cheap Popcast! First, though, a recap of the Royal Rumble predictions. Boy, did I royally screw it up, as I only got two of the five matches, including whiffing on the Rumble and probably jinxing CM Punk to leave WWE. Just like the Royal Rumble twenty years ago, we have two winners! While Thomas Pandich had the most correct picks, earning six points (and chose the delightfully-bizarre Dshingis Khan (the theme of Dragon’s Gate wrestler Uhaa Nation) to close the show, in fairness to his comment going unmoderated until after the Royal Rumble, the runner-up’s song will be played at another point during the episode. Plenty of people earned five points, but Dano tiebreaker main-event running time prediction was only five seconds off the actual match. He chose Cactus Jack’s theme.
Here’s how the prediction contest goes. I’m going to make my picks in this here article, and then open up the replies to you awesome listeners. You will then pick a winner (or if you’re feeling risky a rare draw/double DQ) for each match (don’t worry about getting the finish right, I’m just looking for winners), and then, just in case there’s a tie for correct predictions, pick a running time for the final match listed (the presumed main event) as a tiebreaker.
What does the winner get? Well, you can make your mark on the next Cheap Popcast episode by choosing the next show’s closing theme. Pick the wrestler theme and include a YouTube URL to a wrestler’s theme alongside your predictions (including the running time of the final match listed) and I’ll give you a shout-out before throwing to our episode-ender. Let’s kick off the predictions!
THE RHODES BROTHERS VS RYBACK AND CURTIS AXEL
While there’s plenty of time for WWE to set up a Cody-Goldust match at ‘Mania, I think the best opportunity to pull the trigger on a breakup would be here. Rybaxel work well together, and I’d like to see them get a bit of steam, so I say Ryback and Curtis Axel win..
TITUS O’NEAL VS DARREN YOUNG
Man, this match makes me sad. The Prime Time Players were the rare breed of true tag team, and while it sucks that they never took the tag straps, I don’t think either will have as much success in singles competition. That being said, O’Neal is better positioned to become the breakout star of the group, so I say Titus pins Darren.
TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH: THE NEW AGE OUTLAWS (CHAMP) VS THE USOS
While I’m not super-opposed to this legacy run for the New Age Outlaws, I’d hate to see them get a spot on the WrestleMania card that could go to younger wrestlers who have put more time in over the last twelve months. On the other hand, if you’re going to finally give the Usos the belts after such a long chase, why not make it happen at ‘Mania? I say they drag this out one more month and make NAO Honky-Tonk-style champs over the next month-plus, as The Usos win by countout.
INTERCONTINENTAL TITLE MATCH: BIG E VS JACK SWAGGER
This is another one where I can two completely different scenarios playing out. If Swagger goes takes the belt, he can lay claim to being the better Real American if Cesaro loses at the end of the night. However, I’m thinking we’ll see an IC-US title unification at WrestleMania, so I say Big E wins.
BATISTA VS ALBERTO DEL RIO
If there’s any match on the card that’s predictable, it’s this one. WWE is going to continue to try to cram Batista down our throats, so he’ll absolutely thrash Del Rio. Batista wins.
THE WYATT FAMILY VS THE SHIELD
Okay, maybe this one is predictable, too. The Shield have been teasing a breakup for months, and The Wyatts are still relatively new. I’d love to see a Shield triple-threat match at ‘Mania, and the first step to their breakup is a miscommunication here. The Wyatt family wins.
ELIMINATION CHAMBER MATCH FOR THE WWE WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP
It’s obvious that having Batista and Orton in the main event match won’t go over well, and the WWE has barely set up a rivalry between the two. That being said, if Bryan’s fight against the authority is going to have a happy ending, it’s going to happen at WrestleMania, not here. I say Orton wins at 32 minutes by pinning Bryan, but does so with some chicanery that allows Bryan entry into the ‘Mania main event, too.
Alright, there’s my picks. Sound off below with your match predictions, (including the Elimination Chamber running time) as well as a YouTube link to your wrestler theme pick. Good luck, everyone!
