Are you Extreme…ly good at sports entertainment predictions? Then you might get your choice of wrestler theme closing out next month’s Cheap Popcast. Read on for Dave’s picks and then make yours!
Hey all, back again with another round of Cheap Predictions! As we’ve been doing for awhile now, the reader who makes the most correct predictions gets to pick the song that plays at the conclusion of next month’s episode of Cheap Popcast! First, though, a recap of WrestleMania’s predictions. While I would normally be ashamed of my 3-for-7 outing, the rest of the predictors fell in the same range due to the unexpected outcomes of the Battle Royal and Taker matches. This time around, four people tied for the top slot. While AwkwardLoser deserves credit for being the only person to predict Lesnar breaking the streak, aimbotmaster picked the closest running time for the main event, missing the actual time by just over a minute. He chose a classic; the Insane Clown Posse’s “The Greatest Show,” best known as the theme for the Oddities.
Here’s how the prediction contest goes. I’m going to make my picks in this here article, and then open up the replies to you awesome listeners. You will then pick a winner (or if you’re feeling risky a rare draw/double DQ) for each match (don’t worry about getting the finish right, I’m just looking for winners), and then, just in case there’s a tie for correct predictions, pick a running time for the final match listed (the presumed main event) as a tiebreaker.
What does the winner get? Well, you can make your mark on the next Cheap Popcast episode by choosing the next show’s closing theme. Pick the wrestler theme and include a YouTube URL to a wrestler’s theme alongside your predictions (including the running time of the final match listed) and I’ll give you a shout-out before throwing to our episode-ender. Let’s kick off the predictions!
WEE LC MATCH: EL TORITO VS HORNSWOGGLE
Boy, I hope this is not indicative of what we’ll be getting out of pre-shows in the post-PPV era. At least it’ll be the only match on the card subject to a commercial break. Sadly, I am fully up-to-date on this feud and know that Torito already has a victory, so I predict Hornswoggle wins..
TRIPLE THREAT MATCH: JACK SWAGGER VS RVD VS CESARO
Cesaro’s been on a roll since WrestleMania, taking on a better mouthpiece of a manager in Paul Heyman. RVD’s current run has been a bit lacking, so I don’t think he has the need to continue his upward momentum. Combine that with the fact that Cesaro’s already beat his ex-tag-partner, and I think his hot streak continues. Cesaro wins.
HANDICAP MATCH: R-TRUTH AND XAVIER WOODS VS ALEXANDER RUSEV
Okay, last month I thought the Taker match was a sure bet, but this one is even more predictable. Rusev’s just debuted, and Truth/Woods have been pretty hapless as of late. Rusev wins.
DIVAS CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH: PAIGE (CHAMPION) VS TAMINA
Paige just won the title, which I don’t see the WWE taking off her for some time. I also don’t see any legitimate challengers besides AJ, and her bodyguard doesn’t really pose a threat, IMO. Paige wins.
INTERCONTINENTAL CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH: BIG E (CHAMPION) VS BAD NEWS BARRETT
This is a bit of a tough one. I think it’s a bit too soon to take the strap off Big E, but Barrett’s in the midst of a big push. This hasn’t worked out well for him in the past, but I think fourth title win is a charm and Barrett wins.
STEEL CAGE MATCH: JOHN CENA VS BRAY WYATT
Cena won where it mattered (where he shouldn’t have, in my opinion). Wyatt’s due a win, and the fact that they’re touting the Steel Cage will keep the family out (despite the fact that a ring of fire and an Elimination Chamber haven’t worked), I predict interference causes a Bray Wyatt win.
EXTREME RULES WWE WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH: DANIEL BRYAN (CHAMP) VS KANE
I’m a little worried that Bryan’s about to embark on a Punk-like reign where his title matches are never in the main event, but I’ll let it slide for this first month. Kane’s looked like a chump for the past half-year, and I don’t think a few weeks of badassery is enough to fix that. This should be a pretty insane match, but lets not pretend this is something it’s not; Daniel Bryan wins.
THE SHIELD VS EVOLUTION
The Shield is just getting their second wind. Batista will likely take some time off in the next few weeks to hype his new movie. Triple H probably won’t wrestle again until Summerslam. Unless there’s plans to draw this out another month, I think Evolution’s reunion is short-lived and The Shield wins at 20 minutes.
Alright, there’s my picks. Sound off below with your match predictions, (including the six man tag match’s running time) as well as a YouTube link to your wrestler theme pick. Good luck, everyone!
