THIS JUST IN: The internet really likes Star Wars…
You’ve seen the teaser trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens by now, right? The odds are pretty good that you have, given that the teaser just surpassed the Avengers: Age of Ultron trailer to become the most-watched trailer of all-time. With over 60 million views in less than a week, the 88 second tease is about as mainstream as it gets, and as such, here come the YouTube parodies! And perhaps the greatest thing about these riffs is that they’re coming in hot, fast, and absurdly well produced. Take for example the first one that popped in front of my face, the “Special Edition” Ep VII teaser as directed by George Lucas, which just so happens to extrapolate one of my favorite Dana Gould bits regarding Georgey’s shot composition (seriously, watch that shit – it comes with a bonus Planet of the Apes bit!)
That shit is brilliant, and it came out like forty seconds after the official unveil. As for my personal favorite, here comes another great one from Darren Wallace, which turns your Disney acquisition-based nightmares into my extremely ejaculatory reality! Stick around until the end, that shit floors me. (Thanks to Jeremy Salmon for sending this my way)
If Disney ain’t your preferred hunk of heartfelt nostalgia, then perhaps a little LEGO brickage can Force choke your cold, black heart! Again, can’t believe how fast this was turned around.
Here’s a parody I can’t accurately describe because I’ve never liked Spaceballs. Not judging, I know I’m the weird one.
JJ Abrams has had a reputation for over using lens flare for so long, I’m not even sure I remember where it started. Was it Star Trek? Whatever, here’s a parody run through two more Abrams!
Oooo! Here’s something a little different: The Episode VII teaser as directed by Wes Anderson and damned if it isn’t the mos precious thing you’ve ever seen.
And last but certainly not least
These things have been popping up in Facebook every couple of seconds, and I’m not ashamed to admit, I’m not tired of ’em yet! Lemme know if I missed any good one’s in the comments below.
