A quiet week punctuated by Predator kombat, Scooby-Doo team-ups, and your parent’s favorite movie…
I won’t lie to you guys. This is a slim, SLIM week for Amazon releases. If you look behind the scenes, I blame this being the newest fiscal quarter. All the game publishers put out their biggest games by the end of June, most of the big movies as well, and so we’re left with slim pickings. So, this is a shorter list than usual, BUT at the end I added some deals that you simplly can’t pass up in this current entertainment deadzone. And remember, buying anything through these links supports Laser Time at no extra cost to you. No matter what, us and the Laser Time Patreon will keep trucking along no matter how empty Amazon’s digital shelves get.
Mortal Kombat X’s Predator DLC
As we noted yesterday, the Predator has arrived in Mortal Kombat X. And in a slow week of game releases, this is likely the biggest thing you can get your hands on at this very moment. Developer NetherRealms has been pretty liberal with its DLC, letting in Jason from Friday The 13th and Freddie Kruger, and this time ’80s legend Predator will be carving up folks, with a bonus appearance by Carl Weathers. Sadly, if you want to play it right now, you have to buy the full season pass. Otherwise, you’ll just have to wait for this ugly mother fucker to be sold separately.
Xbox One Wireless Controller
In need of more Xbox One controllers but were waiting for one with a better headphone jack? That’s what this slight redesign of the controller is. The 3.5mm stereo headset port is totally more useful than it was before… Boy, there really isn’t much more to say than that… Man, when will it be the fall yet?
The Big Chill Criterion Collection
I’ll always associate this film with my parents and their friends, because in the mid-80s the soundtrack was playing all the time. This story of baby boomers coming to terms with aging and death and bad marriages was made for people born in the 1950s, it really speaks to you, and it’s a fine film for younger people wanting to understand the existential dread their boomer parents suffer from – assuming your parents belong to that generation, of course. This fancy edition will at least make a good gift for your mom and/or dad, though you will have to explain to them how a Blu-ray works.
Scooby-Doo! & KISS: Rock & Roll Mystery
Scooby-Doo and his clan of meddling kids have been teaming up with celebrities for years now, working with everybody from John Cena to Sandy Duncan, Batman to Don Adams. And this week sees the resilient dog working with every childs FAVORITE rock ‘n roll clowns, Kiss. Yeah, the bad has been more interested in cash than rock for decades now, and Gene Simmons may be one of the grossest human beings alive, AND I highly doubt anyone under the age of 20 even knows who Kiss is anymore, but if there’s a place to be licensed and cash a check, Kiss will be there. At least the 1970’s style of the Scooby clan meshes well with the Kiss Army.
Best Years of Our Lives – A Queen Documentary
Enough of that Kiss bullshit, let’s talk about the truly best rock band of all time, Queen! Ever since I was introduced to them with the iconic Bohemian Rhapsody scene in Wayne’s World, the band’s many hits have been stuck in my head forever, even though Freddie Mercury passed away just as I discovered them. Mercury’s incredible voice mixed with Brian May’s guitar work to make for some of the greatest music of all time, and this documentary will hopefully do justice to one of the best ever. Even if you don’t get this, please give their greatest hits a listen, ok?
House of Cards: Season 3
Seriously, you don’t have Netflix? I mean… I just don’t get it, but maybe that’s me being naive. The streaming service has been an indispensable part of my life for years now, but if you somehow don’t have it but would like to see the newest season of hit series House of Cards, you can pick up this Blu-ray with no strings attached. Watch Kevin Spacey monologue and do his best to outsmart everyone in Washington D.C., all while enjoying his favorite ribs and playing Call of Duty.
Woman in Gold
How did this not win an Oscar last year. It has the Holocaust, Helen Mirren, international intrigue, a ripped from the headlines story. It all seems so beautiful. And yet Woman in Gold came and went with little notice. I don’t want to blame Ryan Reynolds, but he seems like the possible culprit here. Whatever the case, you can now see for yourself if this film was actually important, or merely self-important.

Volume 0 on that Spider-Qwen? I guess volume 1 will include issues after Secret Wars?
Surely KISS isn’t actually voiced by KISS? Also I would have bet on Scooby being a bigger Caninus fan: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vF7CB5yltbM
