The new and “final” Metal Gear Solid 5 poster is bloody brilliant

We’re just a month and change from the release of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, and Hideo Kojima has revealed what he calls the “final” poster for the upcoming stealth-action game, which showcases Big Boss and The Quiet in the aftermath of some gruesome action. Read on to see the whole thing!

Even though every Metal Gear Solid game is showcased for ages before release, with The Phantom Pain shown as far back as E3 2013, Metal Gear Solid V’s conclusion has snuck up on us like a master of espionage action. Perhaps it’s because all of the discord regarding Hideo Kojima’s departure and the subsequent distancing Konami has attempted between the game and its developer, but September 1 is fast approaching, to the extent that we’re now being shown what is called the “final” poster for the Phantom Pain.

Revealed by Kojima on Twitter, stating “New & final visual poster for limited stores, will be displayed from Aug.”Stained In Blood, The Aftermath Of Revenge””, it seems as though this art will only be available in Japan, but I’m more curious about the title itself (and the accompanying imagery). After so many adventures where protagonists could completely avoid violence, how will this image fit into the series’ stealth tradition? All I know for sure is that I’m looking forward to discovering more about this image in just a few scant weeks. Want to see a bigger version? Check it out below!

[UPDATE: While there is definite objectification of The Quiet — a design Hideo Kojima has defended by noting her characterization will unveil why she is put in such a revealing outfit — commentery PsylockeRules pointed out that Neogaf user Gunanimal has altered the image so that it contains all the brutal violence with much less of the gratuitous cleavage. Check out that one below.]

  1. Temperature wise the hottest points in this poster are the blood slicked boobs, which are pretty much there for boobs sake and to be overly reflective, and the bounce light on snakes temple. Neither of which are really doing the character model quality or the composition justice.
I’m also wondering what happened to Quiet’s ear, as it seems to have been replaced with a strange, plastic lid like apparatus.

  2. Yeah I’m beginning to wonder if Quiet has more of an… Important, role than she appears to have already (which is as an eye-candy sniper). Kojima has always had strong multi-layered ladies in his games and the cheesy, B-Movie stripper, white Onechanbara thing going on with Quiet is something I would consider odd for a guy who made Meryl, The Boss and Sniper Wolf.

She has a secret. Or my name isn’t Kusabi…

  3. This is a pair of fat titties splashed in human blood. Who wants this?
If your theme is “Stained in blood”, then show blood running down someone’s hands. Duhh.
What you’ve actually got here is either an expression of a serious blood-fetish, or marketing gone haywire.

  4. Kojima: “But once you recognize the secret reason for her exposure, you will feel ashamed of your words & deeds. The response of “Quiet” disclosure few days ago incited by the net is exactly what “MGSV” itself is.”

*Kojima then proceeds to put her boobs front and center in every promotional shot of the character*

    1. calm down there buddy. he says there’s a reason, let’s wait and see what it is before you get outraged.

  5. Why are Neogaf posters and gamers in general such raging manginas nowadays? Holy fucking shit, it’s just a little cleavage. Are they going to spend the entire game trying to censor Quiet by covering her with bushes and chest-high walls? I think it’s time people stopped paying attention to militant feminists and whiny hipsters who don’t actually play games because these games are literally not for them, never have been and never fucking will be.

    1. Have you seen the Quiet figure Kojima with the squishy breasts? the guy is a perv who’s been given way too much control over the series. I’ll admit i adored Metal gear and Snake eater but his characterisation of women in his games has been Stereotypical at best

      either a sexed up bad girl(Sniper wolf, the Boss,EVA,Screaming Mantis,Raging Raven,Crying Wolf ), a victim(Meryl,E.E.,Fortune,Laughing Octopus,Paz!!) or a voice in your ear (Naomi/Mei ling/Rose)
and dont forget to always have a bikini, bra on show

      1. Being a pervert is a perfectly acceptable alternative life style and Kojima should able to reflect that in his art.

  6. “[UPDATE: While there is definite objectification of The Quiet — a design Hideo Kojima has defended by noting her characterization will unveil why she is put in such a revealing outfit — commentery PsylockeRules pointed out that Neogaf user Gunanimal has altered the image so that it contains all the brutal violence with much less of the gratuitous cleavage. Jesus fucking christ, guys….

  7. Man am I tired of everyone taking this Quiet business to far. Honestly, if you are offended by boobs then find something that suits you better and stop trying to tell me that my appreciation of cleavage is wrong, wrong, wrong. I don’t objectify women. I’ve been in a very happy and stable marriage for over 10 years. At the same time, I very much lean towards the curvy, if you know what I mean. I’m not going to feel guilty over that no matter what. So whether or not Kojima has a reason for Quiet’s revealing attire, I don’t care. If it’s there and makes sense, nice, but if said reason ends up being completely non-existent and there simply for sexy, fine with that too. It’s a game, folks. It’s not real. It’s fantasy, which means we can leave our day-to-day mindsets at the front door, so take it easy. I love games. I love chesty women in games. Why not? I’ve been a gamer since the very earliest days and see the evolution of women in the medium improving, no doubt. I do believe that’s a good thing. But does that also have to mean that any/all less noble portrayals have to go away altogether? Can we stop white knighting the hell out of everything already?

As for the blood smeared cleavage, ok that’s unsettling. Which I expect is exactly what it is intended to evoke. So, again, can everyone grow up a little bit and calm the hell down?
