Amazon0928

We’ve got killer robots, dancing personas, and Tony Hawk’s return…

How’s everybody feeling after #SuperMoon? Anyone a #SuperWerewolf yet? And now that they found water on Mars, are you ready to book you flight there? And do you appreciate current references in the intros to the weekly Amazon article, because I sure do. It helps spice things up on the way to me reminding you that these are the coolest new games and Blu-rays out this week, and if you wanted to buy them via our links, it helps support Laser Time at no extra cost to you. Much like the Laser Time Patreon, any Amazon purchase helps keep the lights on and the rent paid, so let’s see what new releases are here just as September comes to a close…

Persona 4: Dancing All Night
As so many other Japanese RPG makers struggle with relevance and innovation, the last decade has seen Atlus move to the forefront of JRPGs around the world, with Persona leading the way. In fact, Persona 4 is such a beloved game it has inspired numerous remakes, anime adaptations, toys, and spin-offs like the rhythm game Dancing All Night. Made by the same folks as Hatsune Miku, this Vita original features remixes of Persona’s incredible soundtrack, along with a new, in-continuity storyline that full of winks and asides for the many fans. If you bought a Vita or PlayStation TV solely to play Persona 4: Golden (a smart move), then Dancing All Night should be your next stop. And super fans who like to waste money – I’m talking about myself – should be doubly interested in getting the snazzy Disco Fever Collector’s Edition.

Tony Hawk Pro Skater 5
Like many gamers, Activision is ignoring every Tony Hawk game after 4 with this newly numbered return of the Birdman. Despite never touching a skateboard, Tony Hawk’s games introduced me and a load of other late ’90s kids to the joys of extreme sports and commodified punk music. Though the series would disappear after an overdose of plastic and Bam Margera, it’s ready to start all over again with Tony Hawk Pro Skater 5. Can they turn back the clock on this beloved franchise, or is this old skater too beat up and damaged to do a 900 again? This week we’ll all find out.

NBA 2K16
EA Sports’ NBA efforts have imploded over the last decade, all while 2K Sports has crafted one of the most consistently well reviewed basketball games ever. Will the 2K16 edition continue that success? It certainly looks as pretty as before, and even more interestingly is that celebrated director/Knicks megafan Spike Lee crafted the story of this year’s simulated career. It’s so strange to see a game called a Spike Lee Joint, so it might just be worth picking up for that alone, film buffs.

Samurai Warriors 4-II
Call it Warriors, Musou, whatever you like – as long as games exist, it seems we’ll always get a steady diet of Koei-Tecmo’s massive war series. What exactly is Samurai Warriors 4-II? As KT views it, this is the perfect version of the fourth entry in the Japanese warfare series, with new characters, enhancements, and fixes to make this PS4 release the best version of the game ever. So, if you were dying to mess up Kyoto once more as Kagekatsu Uesugi, Takakage Kobayakawa, Koshōshō or Toyohisa Shimazu, then get this ASAP.

Avengers: Age of Ultron
After The Avengers made a gazillion dollars, the world was waiting diligently for the sequel, and while Age of Ultron wasn’t perfect, it was still a great combination of big screen spectacle and typical Joss Whedon wit. But how’s it hold up on the small screen? Now you’ll be able to see with the HD disc release of the film, and you’ll be able to digest many of the cut scenes and making of featurettes that are included. What could possibly go wrong with letting Ultron into you home entertainment system?

Persona 4: Animation Collector’s Edition
Talk about brand synergy! Just as a new Persona 4 game arrives on Vita, a fancypants box set of the first anime adaptation hits North America. This not only has Blu-rays and DVDs for all 26 episodes of Persona 4; The Animation (not to be confused with the more recent adaptation of Golden), there’s also a ton of extras, plus physical stuff like Arcana cards, stickers, and Chie’s buttons. Not a bad deal for under $100.

Entourage
Yup, these guys finally came back, and guess what? They’re still stupidly rich, successful, and are having sex with whoever they feel like! Isn’t it great to be in The Entourage?!!? Seriously though, this show always made me gag, but if you’re a fan of these bros, then now’s the time to get this and put the film next to your DVD box sets of the original series. Meanwhile, I’m just going to rewatch clips of Ronda Rousey beating up Turtle.

SPECIAL SALES NEWS! PRE-ORDER AMAZING MIYAZAKI BOX SET

The Collected Works of Hayao Miyazaki
Hayao Miyazaki is the most celebrated animator of the last 50 years, and for good reason. Films like My Neighbor Totoro, Kiki’s Delivery Service, and Princess Mononoke are some of the most fully realized worlds ever shown in theaters, capturing the hearts of people from just about every age and part of the planet. Now that he’s retired, Amazon has an exquisite looking special collection of every feature length film Miyazaki directed all in one box set. Plus, there are some fantastic bonuses as well that will likely justify the price. Out this November, this looks like a great gift for those you love most.

Meanwhile, the US Disney releases never go on sale, yet these are all set at just over $17!
