Vidjagame Apocalypse 143 – Best Star Wars Games

VGA143

Sick of hearing about Star Wars yet? Too bad, because (after a surprise announcement from erstwhile cohost Anne Lewis) we’re making a shameless grab for its coattails with our (admittedly shaky) rundown of our favorite Star Wars games. With that safely out of the way, it’s on to a brief look at SteamWorld Heist and the Jack the Ripper DLC for Assassin’s Creed Syndicate, some talk about developments in the worlds of Hideo Kojima and Super Smash Bros., and the offbeat franchises you’d love to bring back.

  1. Okay, I’m dying listening to you guys try and talk about Star Wars.

Not sure if this was intended, but you made it sound like you thought Thrawn came from TIE Fighter. The Thrawn Trilogy came out first.

Blue milk comes from Banthas. And it comes out that way.

Chris, you JUST watched RotJ, how do you not remember Vader throwing his saber at Luke, cutting down the catwalk he was on?

    1. Yeah, the last VGA really showed the gang’s lack of knowledge about Star Wars, games in particular. LucasArts have never done a good Star Wars game? Dark Forces, Jedi Knight, Republic Commando.

    1. I rolled my eyes so many times that my retinas actually detached around the 50-minute mark. Listening to the rest of the ep in urgent care now. Love me some Dave jokes.

  2. aww… Anne is leaving? moving far away? how far is very far? is Tyler going too? are they breaking up? no that can’t be the case. why all the mystery? sigh… aw well. I’ll miss Anne. one of the few female voices at the LTN who always brought a wonderful blend of cute and aggressive to VGA , CC & LT. gawd! I missed her when she stopped appearing on VGA and CC a lot like in the earliest eps but now? I’m just gonna’ miss her totally. well, good luck whatever it is you’re going off to do and I hope your life journey is full of amazing wonderful happiness.

    1. That’s basically what went through my head when hearing it. Good luck to Anne and we all will miss you and do really hope we’ll hear from you again soon.

  3. Mark Hamill has played Luke Skywalker outside of the movies…in the hit musical Guys and Dolls as portrayed on The Simpsons!

  4. 🙁 no offense to the others but @Annegela is literally my favorite it’s like I suddenly and painfully grew Bon Scott level balls and was then Flash Kicked in them by Guille

  5. Everyone has to go and do their own thing at some point in their lives. My best wishes to Anne in wherever she travels next, and we’ll all be sure to keep badgering you on Twitter!

  6. For Anne Lewis’ departure, why wasn’t there a “Best Butts of 2015”, and there were a lot of great butts this year.

  7. QOTW I’m going to be a millennial cry baby and say it is a tie between “Life is Strange” and “Tales from the Borderlands”. LiS had some great story telling and I grew a deep connection with the characters that caused me to damn near brought me to tears in certain scenes. While TftB had some amazing humor and very likable characters that made me laugh out loud but lacked a bit in deep connection.
Side note I wished I listened to this episode prior to my viewing of Force Awakens as it killed my ability to enjoy mocking the prequels. Those pieces of shit are dead and from their ashes the phoenix of quality rises, so why mock ashes enjoy the new bird.
Sorry to hear of Anne’s leaving, she was like the most positive person on the cast and her butt commentary was second to none.

    1. I’m a bad reviser. Life is Strange make such great character connections I was damn near brought to tears several times.

  8. I knew Anne left Ubisoft, but I had no idea she was moving far far away. I am legitimately sad right now and it must suck having to leave all the friends she’s made these last few years. Good luck to you Anne; I know things will go well for you in the future!

  9. QotW:

Super Mario Maker – I drew my own Mario levels on paper with colored pencils when I was a kid. The ability to make my own playable levels was a childhood dream come true. I bought a Wii U just to play it and haven’t regretted it.

  10. Sad to hear Anne is leaving 🙁 Best of luck with your move and whatever comes next!
    I hope we don’t lose Tyler too…

  11. Since it was released on 2 January in Europe, I would go with Captain Toad Treasure Tracker. It just gave me a big smile. In contrary to Anne leaving. That just gave me a sad.

  12. Mark Hammil also played Luke in some Robot Chicken sketches. The one with Vadar is really good.

My personal game of the year is Persona 4. This year I went through a long bout of unemployment. Since I had an excess of downtime I decided to finally start that game. I think it really helped me deal with the frustration of applying for jobs. If you any something from this year I’ll go with Splatoon or Undertale
