One Year, 189 Movies

If you care to browse through the full list(s) below, feel free. Please note that I do consider standup and other specials valid, as they fit the Academy’s “feature length” definition of 40 minutes.

2015 movies I saw, ranked

Other than the absolute worst and the top 20 or so, take most of this with a grain of salt. You don’t want to spend time debating the merits Taken 3 or Terminator: Genisys.

And yes, there are some gaps. As of the time of this writing, I haven’t seen The Revenant, Sicario, or a few others. Shame on me, I know.

  1. Wow! I thought I watched a lot of movies. For the last three years, I have kept a running list of all the movies I watch including whether they are first time viewings and/or theatrical viewings. In 2013, I watched 122. In 2014, I watched 160. In 2015, I watched 151.

    My Top Ten of 2015:
    10. Kingsman: The Secret Service
    9. Creed
    8. Ex Machina
    7. The Final Girls
    6. Circle
    5. The Hateful Eight
    4. Inside Out
    3. Star Wars: The Force Awakens
    2. Mad Max: Fury Road
    1. It Follows
Honorable Mentions: Cop Car, The Hive, Knock Knock, The Martian

  2. I have several end-of-year releases I need to see (The Big Short, Carol, The Danish Girl, etc.). And I’m tapping out on Tarantino. I’ve never been a fan, and each movie gets longer and more self indulgent than the previous. Anyway, my tentative bets of 2015:

    1. Spy
    2. Ant-Man
    3. It Follows
    4. Spectre
    5. Spotlight
    6. Straight Outta Compton
    7. The Man from UNKLE
    8. Mission Impossible 5
    9. Learning to Drive
    10. Avengers 2

I didn’t see enough bad movies to make a “worst of” list, but if I did, Listen to me Marlon would be number 1 with a bullet. Straight up insufferable nonsense.

  3. I’ve seen 124 films in 2015. 37 of which were 2015 releases. My top 10 of 2015 as of right now are:

    1. Inside Out
    2. Mad Max: Fury Road
    3. Amy
    4. The End of the Tour
    5. The Martian
    6. When Marnie Was There
    7. Dope
    8. The Walk
    9. Star Wars: The Force Awakens
    10. Steve Jobs

  4. My Favorite Films of 2015 (no order):
    Mad Max: Fury Road
    Ex Machina
    It Follows
    Crimson Peak
    Hateful Eight
Honorable Mentions: Jurassic World, Man From UNCLE, Bone Tomahawk. Also, Dil Dhadakne Do and Titli (Indian films).
Films that I want to see but haven’t yet: The Revenant, Inside Out, The Martian, Anomalisa, Room.

  5. Better late than never to see the Ladies man brotha! Still surprised capcom didn’t sue Jake G for using Ryu’s dragons punch uppercut at the end of the film yo! Shoryuken!!!!!!

  6. Ok here are my Top Ten films of 2015

    1)The Force Awakens
    3)Inside Out
    4)Mad Max:Fury Road
    5)Age of Ultron
    9)Paper Towns
    10)Pitch Perfect 2

I haven’t seen The Revenant,Sisters or Hateful 8 yet as Australia tends to release movies that came out at the end of the year in January. Happened to me at the start of the year with Birdman and Into the Woods. Also, shame on you for putting three Happy Madison films over Pitch Perfect 2!

  7. Damn that’s a whole lot of watching stuff.

Just for fun, I don’t even know if I’ve seen ten new movies this year:

    1. Mad Max
    2. Sicario
    3. Hateful Eight
    4. Inherent Vice
    5. Star Wars: TFA
    6. Jurassic World
    7. Avengers: AOU
    8. Mission Impossible 5

    I think that’s it.

  8. I still need to watch several of these including the Martian and Hateful Eight which I’m hoping to go see this weekend or next. Inside out was definitely an emotional rollercoaster for me and I would definitely rank it as Pixar’s best film to date.
