Ninja Turtles Of The ’80s Go 3D In Special Crossover Episode

Turtles In Time indeed, as all the classic ninjas from the original show meet the CGI turtles of today…

I gotta hand it to Kevin Eastman and Nickelodeon. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles seemed like a fad in my youth, but has been freaking resilient. Leo, Raph, Don, and Mikey are still popular enough to star in a sequel I don’t really wanna see AND a CGI cartoon that more successfully modernizes the turtles. And now parents can watch along with their kids as the original cartoon turtles meet the current TMNT clan in a special episode. Here’s a clip…

I’m just a little sad the 2D stuff looks so Flash-y, but that’s a minor quibble. The best news is that all the original voice actors are back as the four brothers, along with the original Krang. And that also means that Rob Paulsen will be doing double duty as old Raphael and new Donatello. The special airs on March 27, and reportedly will even see them visit the turtles from the black and white comics.

The artists on the show are going to have to work real hard to outdo this fan reproduction of the opening

Which do you think looks better? And will you be watching along to see the iconic recreations of the turtles of your youth? Tell us in the comments!

  1. Yeah Im also sorta disapointed with the classical animation style before they enter the 3d part. It’s actually a surprisingly ok show, and its pretty cool to see kids getting into turtles again, it also seems almost like a remake to turtles forever which combined the classic 80’s turtles with the 2000’s turtles. I find this one jarring because rob paulsen voiced raph in the original show but now he voices donnie, so i wonder if they’ll do a quick gag with that one.

  2. I hope the 2D animation isn’t final because that looked kind bad. Other then that, It was awesome hearing the old voices again.

  3. I hope they go the route that Turtles Forever took and have passing cameos for EVERY TURTLES MEDIA EVER. Even that weird as hell anime.
