The Best New Amazon Releases: Mighty Mirage Sessions

The much-anticipated crowd-funded Mega Man competitor, the Wii U’s biggest JRPG, and the next weird comedy from Sasha Baron Cohen round out this week’s best new Amazon releases!

Whew. Now THAT was an E3, huh? We got tons of press conference streams, a bit less Hank, a great Monday Night Movie (listen to it on Patreon), and a sweet batch of new games and Blu-rays on Amazon’s store shelves. There’s the spiritual successor to Mega Man, another Mario-Sonic sporting crossover, the biggest RPG this year without the words “final” and “fantasy” in it, and some great Blu-ray debuts. Amazon Prime members take note; there’s 20% physical game discount for new physical editions of games! While we’re still high on new games from E3, let’s jump into the new releases!

Mighty No. 9
After a high-profile Kickstarter, a tumultuous development, some delays, and mega-high expectations, Mighty No. 9 is now out and it’s… meh. While it’s far from the worst game of 2016, it might just be one of the most dissapointing, seeing as how many thought it would be the heir apparent to Mega Man’s abandoned throne. Still, if you come into MN9 with low expectations (and you might if you’re buying it here instead of having Kickstarted it), it might just be an entertaining throwback; you know those old games weren’t perfect either! Mighty No. 9 is available on a number of consoles, incuding the PS4 version linked above,  Xbox One and Wii U. If you have Amazon Prime, you’ll score a mighty 20% discount!

Tokyo Mirage Sessions
For some reason, I though this was a game where you’re told to rest the Wii U Gamepad on your body while getting virtually massaged by young coquettish Japanese women. Then I realized it’s MIRAGE in the title, not massage. In what’s been a pretty slim year for new Wii U releases (if not a slim generation), this much-anticipated crossover between Fire Emblem and Shin Megami Tensei might just be the biggest sclusy, so you’d be wise to book a Mirage Session soon!  And no, it’s not a mirage… if you’re an Amazon Prime member, you’ll save 20%!

Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games
After the preliminary events were played on the 3DS back in March, the competition is amping up for the Wii U (where an unprecedented second retail release is coming in a week). I’ve always found the Mario and Sonic games to be perfectly pleasant, and now that the Summer Games (the superior set of sports) is in HD on the Wii U, it’s finally time to start getting excited for the Olympics. Also, as an avid Super Mario Strikers fan, the inclusion of soccer amongst Rio’s sports is a slight bonus. Anywho, you can get a gold medal in value when you save 20% as an Amazon Prime member!

Much like a souped-up cycle, it’s hard to keep up with all of the motorbike games on the market. Heck, the developer of MXGP2 even makes alternate choices like Ride and MotoGP. However, if you prefer your crotch rocket be of the official variety, MXGP2 has official bikes and sponsors so that you can hit the dirt and pavement as realistically as possible. Plus, this being developer Milestone’s first new-gen-only bike racer bodes well for the graphics, so expect some awesome effects whether you’re playing on PlayStation 4 (above) on on Xbox One. Rev up your cycle on Amazon Prime, and you’ll save 20%!

The Brothers Grimsby
Sure, everyone and their dad may have cracked a “MAI WAIFE” joke (some of us have done it on too many podcasts), but there’s no denying that Sasha Baron Cohen has been a comedic force over the last decade. Borat, Bruno, and The Dictator showed his comedic range and penchant for diving deep into awkward confrontational humor, and while the scripted The Brothers Grimsby may lack SBC’s usual spontaneity, it does have a lot of unexpected humor that will shock you just as much as Borat’s well song or Bruno’s MMA fight. I won’t say any more as not to spoil it, but TBG is worth adopting.

My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2
While I never actually bothered to watch the original, there was no denying the success of the original My Big Fat Greek Wedding a decade-and-a-half ago. In some respects, its pretty surprising how little follow-up a $370 million movie commanded (besides the short-lived My Big Fat Greek Life TV show), but we finally got a sequel this year where Nia Vardalos’ mom got hitched. Why they didn’t just do a Naruto time-jump and have her daughter tie the knot is beyond me, but the modestly successful sequel is now on Blu-ray if you’re into more ethnic family humor.

The Crush
Nostalgia perverts, rejoice! Want to see a sixteen-year-old Alicia Silverstone spend 90 minutes alternating between seduction and murder attempts? Then The Crush is for you! In all seriousness, Alicia Silvertone was on fire in the mid-90s due to the Triforce of this film, Clueless, and her series of Aerosmith music videos. It’s a shame that Aleesh doesn’t get as much work nowadays, because The Crush showcases her ability to vacillate between sweet and dangerous to such an extent that it’s astonishing that she hasn’t found much high-profile work this milennium. Anywho, you can now score her breakout role on Blu-ray. It’s way better than Batman & Robin, that’s for sure!

The Collected Works of Hayao Miyazaki
Hayao Miyazaki is the most celebrated animator of the last 50 years, and for good reason. Films like My Neighbor Totoro, Kiki’s Delivery Service, and Princess Mononoke are some of the most fully realized worlds ever shown in theaters, capturing the hearts of people from just about every age and part of the planet. Now that he’s retired, Amazon has an exquisite looking special collection of every feature length film Miyazaki directed all in one box set. Plus, there are some fantastic bonuses as well that will likely justify the price. Currently it’s less than $180, which is a fucking STEAL.
