In the same day that Nintendo spent three long minutes pulling apart its new system, Rockstar offered up a brief clip showcasing Red Dead Redemption 2. Here’s our quick thoughts!
What a day for gaming! Two of the biggest developers in gaming decided to show off their wares this morning and we’ll be talking about each for weeks. Just an hour after Nintendo showed us the insides of the Switch to funky pop music (read our Nintendo Switch reaction here), Rockstar took a more subdued approach with a moody tune introducing us to elements of the Fall 2017 Red Dead Redemption 2. Take a watch!
While it’s not quite at the hype levels of GTA IV’s first view set to Phillip Glass or Michael De Santa grousing about life in Los Santos amidst footage of heists and cool cars, there’s still a few cool moments to highlight. There’s the moody shot of the mystery protagonist in front of a fire while this ominous quote is stated: “Listen to me. When the time comes, you gotta run and don’t look back. This is over.” Given that Red Dead Redemption ended very conclusively and showcased the final days of the wild west, one has to wonder if that same lifestyle is “over,” or if we’re moving into an earlier part of the Red Dead universe (hopefully one that still includes the Marston family). Beyond that, there’s some neat visuals…

Of course, since Red Dead can’t wow you with cool cars, the wildlife has to pick up the slack, and there’s some neat shots of that too!

So yes, it’s a scant minute-long teaser, but it’s still infinitely dissect-able, which every Rockstar trailer does. We’ll be sure to continue talking about this much-anticipated sequel until its Fall 2017 release, but as the trailer says, you can already pre-order it! In fact, if you did so via Laser Time’s Amazon links, we’d thank you kindly, pardner (here they are forĀ PlayStation 4 andĀ Xbox One).

This screams magnificent seven and I cannot wait. Rockstar are so great with characters so I’m excited to see who the other six will be. maybe we could even switch characters like we did in GTA 5? that could be pretty cool
Great breakdown. I’m still hoping it’s a prequel to RDR. A sequel wouldn’t make sense since the first game ended (pretty much literally) with the death of the old west.
I wanna say we’ll be playing back when Marston was riding in a gang. Either that or they’re gonna have flashback missions but being Rockstar with an open world I highly doubt that. If anything, I couldn’t be more excited for the sequel and I’m replaying RDR on my XB1.
