Vidjagame Apocalypse 192 – Ruined Christmases

It’s our first show of December, which means the holidays are nearly upon us. More to the point, Dead Rising 4’s Christmasy zombie uprising gives us the perfect excuse to – along with Fandom editor Bob Mackey – look at games in which the annual gift-giving holiday is not only threatened, but totes wrecked. We then talk about THe Last Guardian, Dead Rising 4, The Last of Us Part 2, Marvel vs Capcom Infinite, and your favorite Final Fantasies.

Question of the Week

If you could have a holiday ornament of any game character, who would it be and why?

Theme song by Matthew Joseph Payne. Break song is Have I Got A Present For You by Toby Keith. Haunting and beautiful New Releases Theme by David B. Cooper.

  1. For what it’s worth, I loved Arkham Origins and was pretty bored with Arkham City. Arkham Origins is still a bit open world, but it’s not as Assassin’s Creedy as City. It’s more contained and I think the plot holds up better because of it.

I also agree with Bob that Parasite Eve holds up well. I haven’t played Parasite Eve 2 in a really long time, but all I remember from it are the exploding babies.

Sony Japan Studios released more than one game for last gen but a lot of them were co-developed by someone else and their only really notable ones in NA were Echochrome and Puppeteer.

    1. I agree. I liked Arkham Origins a lot, as it was really fun exploring the environments inside and around Gotham City. That stage inside the police station was a very memorable experience, and it was pretty hilarious to crawl around its huge basement.

  2. I would totally put up an ornament of a pixel art version of Dark Knight Cecil in basically any pose possible. I googled it. That shit does not exist. I could maybe use a handmade version from etsy and some string, but that sounds like a lot of work for an ornament only I want.

  3. My all time favorite game decoration is the Vault Boy bobble head, specifically repair since I’m a mechanic. I got two of them when they came back for Fallout 4; one got an eyelet screwed into his head to hang from the Christmas tree, and the other holds his wrench and nods approvingly from my toolbox while I work.

  4. Just think how perfect a Christmas ornament of the The Prince (as in the son of the King of All Cosmos of Katamari Damacy fame) would look leaning into your decorated tree!

  5. Can I just say that I miss the Raccoon? I really do. I hope that our cuddly friend makes a surprise appearance in an upcoming Christmas episode or something.

  6. This is going to be a bit of a cop out, but I’m Jewish and it’s hard to make Geralt or The Kid from Bastion in to a Menorah. I would love a Menorah in the shape of the Pokemon Gyrados. It’s blue, it’s white and it’s long. Perfect.

  8. QOTW: I’d like an ornament of Wheatley from Portal 2. He’s already a ball shape for maximum tree compatibility, and the fact he was animated by Karen Prell gives it a nice modern day equivalent of a classic Muppet xmas ornament.

  9. Thought I had put my wallet away… Just got Batman Collection for X1 for $25. Didn’t pick up Origins but I’ll put my money down again for the excellent Rocksteady adventure. I also just grabbed a LoZ Triforce ornament for $8 so… that’s my answer.

  10. Qotw: with Overwatch being one of the few new games I got this year I would love to get an Overwatch ornament. I’m writing this before the holiday skins go live and they surprisingly haven’t leaked yet so I have no idea who will get a skin but I would love a Santa road hog.

  11. By the way I miss the Racoon too, just saying…

QOTW; As the ghost baby of a dirty heathen [we’re much cooler than atheists] my gaming Christmas decoration would be a Dante on top my celebration tree. Dante being half angel and demon is the perfect symbol for Christmas, he even has white hair and a red coat. All he wants to do is fill us with his holy light.
