  1. I want to talk about non-superhero stuff I’m excited for, but there’s just a lot of promising cape shit this year.
Films: Guardians vol2, Spidey Homecoming, Thor Ragnarok, Kong Skull Island, Logan, and War for the Planet of the Apes stand out as some of my most anticipated. Also throwing in F8 of the Furious, and John Wick 2. Plus whatever that third Cloverfield movie ends up being named.
Video Games: the mere week away RE7, Mass Effect Andromeda, Injustice 2, and (hopefully) Insomniac’s Spidey
Comics: pretty much anything DC with Rebirth going strong, and the promise of some answers to lingering questions on the horizon. And with Marvel, Spidey, Daredevil, Hellcat, and essentially the smaller titles that don’t get into upheaval by event after event after event. Coming from two years of piss-poor events, I’ll be staying away from Secret Empire.
TV: the CW superhero shows are on point, and after lackluster Luke Cage, I want Iron Fist/ Defenders/ Punisher to make up for it. Plus, more Kimmy Schmidt, Love, Scream, and Fargo please and thanks.

    1. D’OH! Forgot about Twin Peaks and Star Trek Discovery until you guys brought them up, but DAMN I AM EXCITED FOR BOTH. May is gonna be some good stuff.

  2. Hey there Laser Time dudes, Uncle Roundy chiming in once again on a topic not often talked about on Laser Time. That’s right: books. I’m looking forward to three particular novels, all releasing in February.

    1. Lincoln in the Bardo by George Saunders — After a lifetime of amazing short stories, Saunders is finally publishing his first novel. Spirits observe Abraham Lincoln as he visits his son’s grave.

    2. Universal Harvester by John Darnielle — Wolf in White Van was really good so I’m looking forward to this as well, the second novel from the songwriter and singer of the Mountain Goats.

    3. All Our Wrong Todays by Elan Mastai — Something I ran into while falling down an Amazon rabbit hole. A guy from a 2016 where the 1950s vision of flying cars and whatnot came true, but he winds up in our 2016 and ends up erasing the idyllic one. You can read the first five chapters here, which is what got me interested.

  3. Films: Wonder Woman, Justice League, Baby Driver (Edgar Wright), The Shape of Water (Guillermo del Toro), Dunkirk (Christopher Nolan), John Wick 2, Lego Batman Movie, Get Out (Jordan Peele), Kong: Skull Island, Alien Covenant.

TV Shows: Twin Peaks, Better Call Saul s3, Fargo s3, Master of None s2, American Gods.

Games: Red Dead Redemption 2, Injustice 2, Sonic Mania, Gravity Rush 2, Agents of Mayhem.

  4. All Logan, all the time, baby!

The X-Men movies may be up and down, but at least they’re willing to go places with their characters. Willing to take chances. Unlike a certain Disney franchise, where two of the characters, fighting in their so-called “Civil War” practically turn to the camera, and say: “Don’t worry, kids. We’re not really fighting. We’re pulling our punches. Everything will be fine. All your favorite heroes will survive, and be back in the next one. And so will you.”

I watched those movies like an obedient zombie, until I after like 14 of them realized I’d only really liked two. I’m done.

  5. You guys didn’t go over books but there is one book in particular I’m really looking forward to this year.

I’m really looking forward to reading “Thrawn” later this year. Timothy Zahn is writing it, which is fitting since he’s the one who created the original character from the old EU in the Heir to the Empire trilogy.

  6. CLUB LA VELA! Holy hell!! We stayed next door to Club La Vela for YEARS when we went to PCB for vacation! We still go to the restaurant next door Spinnaker’s. That made my day, Chris. Thank you.

Ducktales, Zelda, Thor, and the Switch are my most anticipated.

  7. I am most looking forward to the Laser Time Alfred Chicken stream this year.

But for real I am super hyped for the new MST3K. Provided it actually comes out this year.

  8. Chris mentioned the complete Beavis and Butthead collection again…

Everything I’ve read indicates that this set is just the movie, season 4 and the three “Mike Judge Collection” DVD sets. That’s it. Nothing new. If you have all that stuff, you don’t need this new set.

And the reason why there’s never been a complete set is because Judge is embarrassed by the earliest cartoons and doesn’t want them released on DVD.

  9. As a colossal Godzilla mark, I am livid I have not seen Shin Godzilla, being in the UK and so getting shafted AGAIN (you have to import close to all the films) but I refuse to pirate, I don’t believe in it and I especially want to support new Godzilla media. I will wait very patiently this year for the home release… I’ve waited this long so I can probably wait longer by this stage.

As for Kong, I’m all on board!
