Vidjagame Apocalypse 221 – Stories Hidden In Collectibles

Plenty of games like to litter their worlds with hidden items and secrets for you to ferret out, but how many of those actually come with their own self-contained storylines? Quite a few, it turns out – and with the help of former IGN editor Vincent Ingenito, we’ll go through five of our favorites this week. Then it’s on to Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy, Pac-Man Vs. coming to Switch, and movies you’d like to see get their own janky adaptations. (Thanks to John Spezzano for this week’s Top 5 suggestion!)

Question of the Week
What’s a game you’ve finished, but wish you’d spent more time with anyway?

Theme song by Matthew Joseph Payne. Break song is I luv Hamburgers from Bust A Groove.

  1. I beat my copy of meat yesterday, but I wish I would have played with it a little more. I was focused on the final mission and didn’t spend much time with the side stuff.

    1. Sometimes it’s nice just to watch more cutscenes, but sometimes you just get to the end, and don’t really feel like doing any clean up after.

  2. QOTW – There’s probably been dozens of games I’ve played that had either post game content or some kind of new game + that I intended to take advantage of but never did. The one that stands out as being the game I was the most committed to taking advantage of for its post game content, but bailed, was Eternal Darkness for Gamecube. I thought that game was really inventive, I had a lot of fun playing it despite some clunky controls, and once I beat it I think I did start a second play through but ran out of steam after only an hour and never returned to it. At this point, I might as well hold out for a remake or something before I play it again.

  3. I really love how you continue to insult a portion of your audience, Chris.

It doesn’t make you look like a hypocritical, petty, vindictive manchild at all!

    1. “Portion of your audience” “One pathetic loser with nothing better to do than listen to a show he hates named Smuh”

      1. You know if you took your tongue out of Chris’ ass for two seconds, you might be able to grow a brain. Cunt.

        1. Why would tongue placement affect brain growth?

Are you in the community Facebook page? Do you know that you’re a huge joke there now? The hosts and other listeners think you’re a pathetic piece of shit. Why are you still here?

          1. Funny, I only saw one mention of my name from one whiny baby who’s been abusive to me from the start.

        2. Henry said on the sketch show episode that he likes jokes that are run into the ground, and I think Chris is following that philosophy with his “political joke.” It seems unnecessary at this point, but I doubt Chris will let it go.

  4. That’s the thing with Americans nowadays. Everybody thinks they’re in an episode of Crossfire. They’d rather shout over people than talk to them.

  5. Great now I want to play Assassin’s Creed. Now to twiddle my fingers for a sale on the Ezio Triology (even if on the PS3).

Chris just get a slim, and don’t leave it on all the time. And don’t forget to dust!

    1. Duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuude. Amazon trail and that little bitch prince. I played this game so much as a kid and neither me or my brothers could ever get the good ending. I really should go back and play it to see if it as hard as I remember it being. I’m happy to hear I wasn’t the only one punished by this game. I remember the fishing was fun and it was my first introduction to Teddy Roosevelt. I may have dreamed both of those things up though.

  6. QOTW: I don’t think I’ve ever finished an open world game without some lingering regret, but abandoning Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag without taking down those four Legendary Ships stings to this day. As confident as I was in my full crew and (nearly) maxed-out Jackdaw, when a sudden fog rolled in with what appeared to be an enormous ghost ship, all the sea shanties we had been diligently collecting for months couldn’t save us. Facing a losing battle, we turned tail, swearing to finish the fight one day–we never did.

I later found out that was the easiest of the Legendary Ships…Sorry, mateys.

  7. This is an easy one…need for speed underground 2 bitches…sure you can still do the street races and stuff but they only pay out $100 each…do you know how many races you need to win in order to make a badass rice burning Ferrari killer

  8. I really wish I had spent more time in the world of Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor. Exploring middle-earth and beating up the Uruk captains was so much fun for me and it was nice to delve deep into the world that held the “FILTHY BAGGINSES!”

  9. “People eat so many burgers, they feel asleep all the time.”

Laughed my ass off. Well played!
