God of War is out this week, taking jaded Greek hipster Kratos on a spree of cultural appropriation through Scandinavia (or something like that). To celebrate the series’ by-all-accounts amazing rebirth, Matthew Allen and Alaina Yee help us dedicate this week’s show to five other games that draw heavy inspiration from Norse mythology, complete with one-eyed gods, Valkyries, and battles at the end of everything.

I’ve only played the DS sequel/spin off of Valkyrie Profile, Called Covenant of the Plume, and never really noticed the Norse influence. Thought it was just typical JRPG fare, lol.
When I heard it was a podcast about God of war, then they mentioned the mistletoe curse, I was hoping they’d sneak Shadow Hearts Covenant in, but it doesn’t fit the norse mythology part.
I guess the list would be overwhelmed with Thor games if they were included. Like the ones based on the movies, and this really old top-down game called “God of Thunder” that I remember playing that I just found out is on Steam! http://store.steampowered.com/app/738470/God_Of_Thunder/
Also, Age of Mythology featured Norse mythology figures, amongst others.
