This month saw the passing of Burt Reynolds, a man who was no stranger to popping up in video games – and in his honor, we decided to spend this week’s Top 5 looking at other celebrities who briefly played digital versions of themselves. Then we move on to talk about Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Nintendo’s online service, and your favorite re-creations of real-world cities.
Question of the Week:
What’s your favorite celebrity performance (cameo or character) in a game?

QotW: My favorite celeb cameo in a game is Gary Coleman in Postal 2 (I know, I know, terrible game)….it was random as hell and unexpected
QotW: my favorite celebrity appearance in a video game is Keith David in Saints Row 4. But his role in the game led to another great cameo of Rowdy Roddy Piper for the They Live! recreation.
I really liked Ozzy Osbourne in Brutal Legend. Good stuff
I didn’t have a problem with the early game in Tomb Raider. I really liked the setting and found the villages and quests an interesting addition to the game.
Favourite performances
Mike Patton from Faith no More as ‘The Darkness’
Runner up – Will Arnett basically playing ‘zombie apocalypse GOB’ in Left 4 Dead 2
QotW: Off the top of my head I can’t think of any celebrity cameos that haven’t already been mentioned (also I’m really glad Postal 2 got some recognition it’s crude and childish but damn I love that game) but in terms of performance I’d have to say Mark Hamill as Majima in the Yakuza 1 localization, if anyone had to do an English voice for Majima I’d want it to be him. Also really have to agree with Lambert is Dead with Mike Patton for his role as The Darkness. It’s pretty damn impressive that he can just do that voice with little to no editing or post production help.
